According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the summer-autumn crop of 2024, the whole province has planted over 22,500 hectares of rice, reaching 100.9% of the plan (plan 22,300 hectares). Currently, in the province, more than 20,000 hectares of rice have flowered, ripened, and waxed. In Hai Lang district alone, over 70% of the rice area has ripened, concentrated in low-lying communes such as Hai Que, Hai Duong, Hai Dinh, Hai Phong...
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and the Quang Tri Province Hydro-Meteorological Station, from August 1 to 10, 2024, the weather will be mostly sunny and dry, favorable for localities to organize the harvest. After August 10, there is a possibility of widespread heavy rains.
In order to effectively implement solutions to respond to natural disasters and prevent pests and diseases in the late summer-autumn rice crop in 2024, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development recommends that the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns guide farmers to regularly visit fields to investigate, estimate, forecast and prevent pests and diseases at the end of the crop such as stem borers, small leaf rollers, bacterial leaf blight, various types of planthoppers... to minimize damage caused by pests and diseases to the rice area that has not yet flowered, is flowering and is milky ripe.
At the same time, check and repair dikes and embankments; when heavy rains cause flooding, tornadoes cause rice to fall, it is necessary to mobilize means to quickly drain water; regularly update and monitor weather forecasts to proactively develop production solutions to adapt and respond promptly and effectively.
For the area of fully ripe rice, it is necessary to take advantage of favorable weather, mobilize human resources and mechanical means to speed up the harvest when the rice reaches 80% - 85% ripeness, with the motto "green at home is better than ripe in the field" to minimize damage caused by natural disasters; at the same time, there are plans for drying, preserving and storing agricultural products appropriately, adapting to weather developments.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also requires its branches and centers to increase professional staff to closely follow the fields, promptly detect and provide effective instructions on handling pests and diseases that arise and cause harm to late tea.
Regularly monitor and update production status and weather developments to advise on proactive measures to promptly respond to adverse situations caused by natural disasters. Proactively take measures to prevent and overcome incidents after natural disasters, protect the safety of dams and irrigation works to serve production.
