According to The Korea Times , the work will be released on Naver Webtoon, a popular Korean comic platform, marking Shin Il Sook's return since the Kaya series (2017), and also ending her 6 years as president of the Korean Cartoonists Association.

Girls who write their own destiny

Shin said the idea for Manu's Daughters originated from a dream she had 40 years ago. "I promised myself then that I would turn that dream into a comic book. Now it has become Manu's Daughters ," she shared.

In 1986, she published one of her best-selling works, Four Daughters of Armian , which combined her dreams with her interest in the Persian Wars and the Histories of the Greek historian Herodotus.

" Manu's Daughters is a more faithful representation of that dream and will be a gift to fans of Four Daughters of Armian ," she said.

The story revolves around Queen Manu - the character who connects the divine world and the human world - and her daughters who possess special abilities to write their own destiny.

Readers will have the opportunity to compare the new characters with the four main characters in Shin's Four Daughters of Armian .

Debuting in 1984 with the fantasy work Princess of the Lion , Shin has had many famous works such as: Athens of Love, Lineage and Pharaoh's Lover , shaping the comic scene in Korea.

She also quickly adapted to the era of online comics, doing all the creative work herself on digital platforms but still maintaining a philosophy of focusing on the essence of storytelling, rather than following trends.

"When making Manu's Daughters , I focused on building a deep plot, emphasizing character emotions, instead of following the rapid development of the current webtoon (comic) platform," Shin said.

Her goal is to create “lasting work” that will still be relevant 10 to 20 years later. The secret to staying creative, Shin says, is that “drawing comics is what I love most.”

"When I was 20, I thought I would stop drawing comics when I turned 50. But when I reached that age, I kept coming up with new ideas for stories I wanted to create, so I continued my work," Shin affirmed, setting a goal this year to both complete his role as the association's leader and fully return to his creative work.
