“Shocked” with maintenance costs of million dollar hypercar Bugatti Bolide

When it comes to million-dollar hypercars dedicated to the racetrack like the Bugatti Bolide, it's not hard to imagine that all the costs involved far exceed the standard of a normal supercar.

Recently, real estate billionaire Manny Khoshbin, one of the first owners of the Bugatti Bolide in the US, shared his real-life experience of this car on his personal YouTube channel, attracting the attention of nearly 1.75 million followers.
One of the big surprises is the tire maintenance regulations. According to Bugatti's recommendations, Bolide owners need to replace their tires every 60 km on the track, to ensure optimal performance and prevent accidents at high speeds.

The cost for a new set of Bolide tires is around $8,000.

The tire preparation process before the first run is equally complex: the tire must be mounted, removed and remounted three times to create an even friction pattern across the surface, which increases the Bugatti Bolide's grip on the road.

The cost of a new set of Bolide tires is about $8,000, which is expensive but still cheaper than the $7,200 set of Chiron street tires and much cheaper than the $42,000 set of tires that were once equipped on the Bugatti Veyron.

Since the Bolide isn’t intended for street use, Bugatti also offers a smaller set of tires for transportation. If the car is only displayed in a climate-controlled garage, owners can extend the tire change interval to five years with dedicated display tires.

Not only tires, many Bolide interior parts also have a certain shelf life, especially in harsh operating environments.
Behind the giant tires is a carbon-carbon brake system that is considered the largest ever on a race car. However, Bugatti has not announced the maintenance cost for this item, many people speculate that the replacement cost will be extremely expensive.
Not only the tires, many of the Bolide’s interior components also have a limited lifespan, especially in the harsh operating environment of the racetrack. Items that need to be replaced periodically include seat belts, seat cushion materials, fuel tanks, and fire extinguishers (of which the fire extinguishing system’s battery only lasts about a year).
To ensure safety when running at speeds above 320 km/h, Bugatti equipped the Bolide with an engine cut-off system and an emergency fire extinguishing system, which can be activated by a dedicated button on the center console or by a red handle located on the outside of the car body.

Starting the race car’s 1,578-horsepower, 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine is no simple matter of pressing a button. The owner must first turn on the main switch, then turn on the ignition, and finally press the start button located on the removable steering wheel, similar to the design of modern endurance cars.
Notably, the million-dollar Bugatti Bolide does not incorporate an active cooling fan system. After each track run, the car must be manually cooled with a portable fan for at least 30 minutes. During the waiting time, the owner also needs to refuel with specialized racing gasoline with an octane rating of 110.
