In 2025, the Provincial General Hospital organized 4 bidding packages with nearly 500 pharmaceutical items and had winning bids. Currently, suppliers are supplying drugs. Along with that, the local supply package allocated 80 more items to the Provincial General Hospital and the national centralized bidding package allocated 40 items to the hospital, ensuring the supply of drugs for medical examination and treatment.

Drug management at the Provincial General Hospital is strictly implemented from the drug bidding process to the stages of warehousing, preserving and dispensing drugs to each patient.
Mr. Tran Tuan Tu, Head of the Pharmacy Department, shared: All drugs entering the hospital go through bidding, are granted registration numbers, and are supplied from reputable suppliers with guaranteed capacity. When drugs are imported into the warehouse, we conduct sensory inspections of the drugs and have test certificates. In addition, annually, the Lao Cai Provincial Testing Center also collects drug samples for testing. As a result, the drug samples tested by the Provincial General Hospital all meet quality requirements.

Currently, the authorities have discovered cases of production and trade of counterfeit medicines and health protection foods in Thanh Hoa province and some localities. Notably, the production and trade of these counterfeit goods have lasted for many years, dozens of types of counterfeit medicines and health protection foods have been produced and put into circulation. Implementing the direction of the Department of Health, the Provincial General Hospital and medical examination and treatment facilities in the province have urgently reviewed the purchase and supply process and the supply situation of medicines and health protection foods in the past; ensuring that the medicines and health protection foods supplied have been licensed for circulation and supplied by legal businesses, with full invoices and documents.
At the Provincial Endocrinology Hospital, on average, more than 5,000 people are examined and nearly 400 are treated as inpatients each month, mostly chronic patients. Currently, the hospital is managing more than 3,000 diabetic patients and more than 1,200 hypothyroid patients...

Mr. Hoang The Dan (Coc Leu ward, Lao Cai city) has had diabetes for more than ten years. Every 25 days, he goes to the hospital to get regular medication. Mr. Dan shared: "I go to the hospital for a health check-up on schedule, get advice from the doctor and get medication as prescribed. For many years, my blood sugar has been stable, limiting complications of the disease."
People with endocrine diseases need to use many types of special drugs, maintain for a long time, the demand for drugs is high. The Provincial Endocrine Hospital has been applying strict drug management measures, combined with transparent and effective drug bidding to help minimize risks of drug quality, optimize treatment costs for patients and contribute to improving the quality of medical services at the hospital.
Ms. Vu Thi Nguyet, Director of the Provincial Endocrinology Hospital, shared: "I really hope that the authorities will tighten the inspection and control of drugs on the market and the circulation and licensing work in production. When we tighten management right from the production to distribution stage, there will be no fake or poor quality products."

Currently, the Department of Health Inspectorate has coordinated with the Pharmaceutical Affairs Department and relevant departments to launch a peak campaign to combat counterfeit drugs and health protection products of unknown origin; strengthen inspection of interconnection and sale of prescription drugs, and strictly handle violations. Inspection activities are not only carried out at hospitals but also at pharmacies and drugstores in the city and districts and towns.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Anh, Deputy Director of Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health, said: We require pharmaceutical businesses and drug users in the province to strictly carry out the business, purchase, sale, and use of drugs and health protection products with clear origins and guaranteed quality. In addition, we need to strengthen self-inspection and supervision of drug and health protection food quality management; promptly detect and handle fake drugs and health protection foods.
Communication work is also being promoted by the health sector. The provincial Center for Disease Control has disseminated and informed establishments that trade and use drugs and health protection products and people not to trade and use fake drugs and health protection products of unknown origin; only buy drugs at legal pharmaceutical establishments licensed by competent authorities; and purchases and sales must have full invoices and documents.
In addition to the efforts of authorities in controlling and managing drug quality, people also need to proactively raise awareness about how to identify fake and poor quality drugs and join hands to push back the situation of fake drugs on the market.
