The Russian Defense Ministry announced on June 28 that the Russian military had destroyed another Soviet-made S-300PS long-range air defense system being used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The system was deployed near the Velikodolinskoye settlement in the Odessa region, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The target was attacked with an Iskander missile.
Video footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry shows that the attack destroyed the system's two 5N63S fire control radars, one of which was deployed on a 40V6M semi-mobile mast, as well as a command and control vehicle.
Kiev forces had about 100 S-300P, S-300PT, S-300PS and S-300V1 batteries in operation before Russia began its special military operation in Ukraine more than two years ago. The country received an S-300PMU battery from Slovakia a few months after the special military operation began.
Most of the S-300 systems of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were destroyed, damaged or captured by the Russian military. As a result, Ukraine's long-range air defense capabilities were significantly reduced.
It is worth noting that the Russian military has stepped up its operations against the air defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the past few months, damaging or destroying dozens of the country's radar and air defense systems, including those recently supplied by the West.
The S-300PS complex uses the 5P85T self-propelled launcher (based on the MAZ 7910 8x8 truck chassis) and the 5N63S fire control radar. The S-300PS is considered one of the most powerful long-range air defense systems when using the 5V55R interceptor missile with a range of 90km, a maximum speed of 1,700 m/s, and an operating altitude of 0.025 - 30km. This long-range air defense system can simultaneously track 100 targets and control missiles to destroy 12 targets.
