Continuing the series of communication activities to reduce plastic waste in Con Co island district, this morning, August 25, the Center for Communication on Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in coordination with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Tri province, People's Committee of Con Co island district, World Wildlife Fund in Vietnam (WWF-Vietnam) organized the launching ceremony of environmental sanitation, collection, classification of garbage and planting trees to protect the environment, and coastal wave protection at Ben Nghe beach. Deputy Director of the Center for Communication on Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Cao Minh Tuan; representative of the Department of Environmental Pollution Control, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; leader of People's Committee of Con Co island district; representative of WWF-Vietnam; agencies, units and a large number of officers, soldiers and people of the island district attended the launching ceremony.

The activity aims to raise awareness and promote community responsibility for environmental protection and climate change response; especially maintaining movements and models of cleaning the sea in Con Co island district, limiting plastic waste, contributing to the good implementation of the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 as well as other regulations to realize Vietnam's strong commitment in responding to climate change, achieving net emissions of "0" by 2050.
At the same time, honor the values of the ocean for human life, convey messages about protecting environmental resources and islands to the community, create conditions for all individuals, organizations and businesses to join hands to exercise their rights and obligations in environmental protection in general and marine environment protection in particular through specific and practical actions and deeds.

At the launching ceremony, Deputy Director of the Center for Communication on Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment Cao Minh Tuan called on agencies, units and all people to effectively implement the Government's Strategy for sustainable exploitation and use of natural resources, protection of marine and island environment until 2030, with a vision to 2050; the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 and legal documents on environmental protection.
In particular, priority should be given to the use of environmentally friendly technology and products that consume little energy; the use of raw materials that generate waste and pollute the environment, especially disposable plastic products, should be limited; household waste and plastic waste should be collected, classified, and treated at source; and the responsibility of leaders should be promoted in carrying out the tasks of managing, exploiting, and rationally using marine resources to protect and preserve marine and island resources and environment for the purpose of sustainable development.

Immediately after the launch, over 150 delegates, officers, soldiers, union members and people simultaneously launched a general cleaning campaign on the beach, collected waste along the coast, classified waste at source and collected waste in the right place.
On this occasion, the Center for Communication on Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment presented a garden of candleberry trees to the People's Committee of Con Co island district and planted trees, attached signs for the green island model, and reduced plastic waste at the beach in Ben Nghe area.
