The most obvious sign of the narrowing gap in health care between regions is the excitement of the people. Ms. Danh Thi Hue, Hamlet 7, Tan Loc Commune shared: “There are many Khmer ethnic people living in this hamlet, and in recent years, their lives have changed a lot. People are more enthusiastic about their work, no longer waiting or relying on the support of the State. In particular, health care has received much attention, children are fully vaccinated, and women of childbearing age have people to guide and take care of them.”

The lives of people in areas with large ethnic minorities are gradually improving.

In U Minh commune, public health care is also given special attention. Doctor CKII Nguyen Truong Giang, Head of U Minh Commune Health Station, said: “The unit has established a public health care committee, structured from commune to hamlet. Each hamlet has a population collaborator and medical staff in charge. This is considered an “extended arm” of the local health system, helping to bring health services closer to ethnic minorities.”

The health of women and children in areas with large ethnic minorities is given due attention.

Along with the health sector, the Women's Union at the grassroots level also cares for the health of women and children through many practical activities. Ms. Truong Thi Phan, Health Team of Hamlet 7, U Minh Commune said: "Many ethnic minority women sometimes do not fully understand the steps of health care. Therefore, I often go to homes to mobilize and guide women of reproductive age to get vaccinated on schedule, support postnatal care, and encourage breastfeeding. As for young children, I encourage families to bring their children to get fully vaccinated according to regulations."

Ms. Danh Thi Mi, Hamlet 6, U Minh Commune shared: “Here, the government, Women's Union and grassroots medical staff pay a lot of attention to the health of children and women of reproductive age. Any family with a small child and a vaccination schedule will be informed by the staff at home. Sometimes when I am busy with work, I often forget, thanks to the staff reminding me. Any malnourished child is instructed on how to cook nutritious porridge at home, and enthusiastically supported in how to supplement nutrients.”

Children in areas with many ethnic minorities have fun, are cared for and looked after.

“U Minh commune benefits from projects on public health care, improving the health and stature of ethnic minorities; preventing and combating child malnutrition (under the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development for Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period), including improving nutrition for ethnic minorities such as cooking nutritious porridge, improving physical condition..., which we have fully implemented, contributing to reducing the rate of malnourished children to the lowest level", informed Doctor CKII Nguyen Truong Giang.

Through specific, close and practical actions, the health of women and children in areas with a large ethnic minority population is cared for and improved positively. This is not only a change in awareness but also an important premise for building a healthy and sustainable community.
