The Nguyen Dynasty throne was protected behind a glass corridor.
Restoration work strictly follows museological principles, prioritizing the preservation of original elements, not creating additional patterns, not renewing artifacts, and keeping original traces if the structure is not affected.
Materials and techniques used are compatible with the original materials, giving priority to traditional methods and materials.
The restoration process includes 9 steps, from surveying, analyzing materials, creating 3D designs, to scientific cleaning, termite treatment, repositioning and attaching 14 fragments of the damaged throne armrest. Cracked and missing parts are supplemented with homogeneous wood or wood powder mixed with raw paint. The gilded lacquer layer is reinforced and restored in necessary positions according to traditional techniques, then covered with a thin, transparent protective layer that can be removed when needed.
After restoration, the "Nguyen Dynasty Throne" will be re-displayed at Thai Hoa Palace, preserved according to national standards TCVN 13586:2022 and TCVN 14167:2024.
The entire construction process is documented with photos, videos and fully stored in the preservation file.
