In recent years, many households, cooperatives, and enterprises in the province have invested in developing safe agricultural production according to VietGAP standards, organic and organic in the fields of cultivation, livestock, and aquaculture. To date, the province has more than 15 hectares of crops certified to meet organic standards; nearly 6,000 hectares of crops are produced in an organic direction. In 2024, the agricultural sector piloted the project "Creating Carbon Credits in Rice Production" in the autumn-winter crop with an area of over 90 hectares in Yen Phong commune (Yen Dinh), reducing 4.84 tons of CO2, equivalent to 4.84 carbon credits/ha. In the spring crop of 2025, the agricultural sector continued to expand the pilot production project to 1,200 hectares of rice to create carbon credits in 10 communes in Yen Dinh district. In addition, the Department of Agriculture and Environment cooperates with Japan to develop and implement the project "Reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building carbon credits in rice production in Thanh Hoa province". The implementation period is from 2024 to 2033, with an area of 200 hectares in 2025, expanding to 50,000 hectares by 2030...

In the livestock sector, developing according to a closed value chain and raising animals according to a chain linking production and product consumption. Localities in the province have applied drone technology in spraying pesticides for crops, reducing labor and protecting human health. Hoang Hoa and Ha Trung districts have installed a pilot artificial intelligence (AI) system to measure and collect data on greenhouse gas emissions in rice production...

According to the Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, Vu Quang Trung: Green transformation in agriculture is a process focusing on applying advanced methods and technologies to production, minimizing negative impacts on the environment in agriculture. The main goal of green transformation in the agricultural sector is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, use natural resources efficiently and enhance the resilience of the agricultural system to climate change. The goal by 2030 is for the whole province to expand the area of crop production to reduce emissions, create carbon credits on 30,000 hectares of rice and 8,000 hectares of sugarcane. To achieve that goal, the department is actively advising the Department of Agriculture and Environment to promote scientific research, application and transfer of technical advances and advanced technologies into production, increase the value of agricultural products, increase the rate of agricultural by-products that are reused, recycled, protect the environment, promote the process of green, low-emission agricultural transformation. Along with that, build support mechanisms and policies to attract people, cooperatives and businesses to invest in digital transformation and green agriculture.

Agricultural development associated with green transformation is the direction and opportunity for the agricultural sector to develop rapidly and sustainably, responding to climate change that is becoming increasingly complex as it is today. Currently, the provincial agricultural sector is actively coordinating with departments, branches and localities to promote propaganda and guidance for people, cooperatives and enterprises operating in the agricultural sector to link regions to develop a circular economic ecosystem, reduce greenhouse gas emissions in cultivation, livestock farming and processing to create a comprehensive closed circle, integrating multiple values.
