Fishermen rescued by transport ship after 24 hours missing at sea

Previously, at around 7:00 p.m. on August 11, Van Phuoc Border Control Station (Xuan Dai Border Station) received a report from Ms. Ngo Thi Tinh (born in 1975 in Van Phuoc ward) about her family's fishing boat having an accident at sea. Specifically, the fishing boat PY4086TS (on board were 3 fishermen all from Van Phuoc ward including Huynh Van Hung, born in 1972; Pham Hung, born in 1976 and Tran Ngoc Thach) with Mr. Huynh Van Hung as captain and also the owner of the boat, fishing in trawl nets.

Van Phuoc Border Control Station received a report from a family member whose fishing boat was in distress at sea.

At about 4:00 p.m. on August 11, while fishing at coordinates 14 ⁰ 15'20''N - 109 ⁰ 2'20''E in the waters of Phu My commune ( Gia Lai province), an iron ship (reportedly a black ship with 3 cranes on board) moving in the North - South direction sank, causing the 3 fishermen mentioned above to fall into the sea. As a result, the fishing boat PY4086TS sank completely. Fortunately, fishermen Huynh Van Hung and Pham Hung were rescued by a local fishing boat at about 18:30 the same day (in stable health condition), but fisherman Tran Ngoc Thach was missing.

After receiving the news, Van Phuoc Border Control Station urgently contacted My Duc Border Control Station (My An Border Station) and Quy Nhon Port Border Station (Gia Lai Province) to coordinate in notifying fishermen to search for the missing person. At the same time, it notified vessels operating in the sea area near the fishing boat in distress to assist in searching for the victim and coordinate with relevant units to verify the collision of the iron ship.

After more than 24 hours missing, at 4:50 p.m. on August 12, fisherman Tran Ngoc Thach was discovered and rescued by the transport ship VTT 169 belonging to Xuan Toan Trading Joint Stock Company ( Ninh Binh province) captained by Mr. Hoang Van Cuong (born in 1986). Xuan Dai Border Guard Station informed Mr. Thach's family and contacted the captain of the ship VTT 169 to encourage and inquire about the victim's health, and instructed the captain of the ship VTT 169 to contact the nearest functional units to bring Mr. Thach ashore.

Representatives of Xuan Dai Border Guard Station visited and encouraged fisherman Tran Ngoc Thach and his family.

At 7:00 p.m. on August 12, the transport ship VTT 169 handed over the victim to Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station (Gia Lai Province). After receiving medical care, Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station continued to hand over fisherman Tran Ngoc Thach to his family to take him back to his hometown for further medical care. Currently, Mr. Thach's health has gradually stabilized, however, his blood pressure is still high and his heart rate is fast.

During the night of August 12 to the morning of August 13, the Party Committee, People's Committee of Xuan Dai Ward, Xuan Dai Border Guard Station and local people visited and encouraged Mr. Thach and his family. Xuan Dai Border Guard Station is coordinating with relevant agencies to verify the details of the incident and the vehicle involved in the collision.
