Twenty years after the release of the film "Liberation of Saigon", People's Artist Khuong Duc Thuan - who played General Vo Nguyen Giap - shared for the first time about the film and his current life on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
Born in 1953, Khuong Duc Thuan graduated from the second class of actors at the Vietnam Theatre Arts School. After graduating, he was assigned to the Liberation Army Art Troupe of Military Region V - an art unit operating directly on the battlefield.
A special mark in the career of artist Khuong Duc Thuan is the role of General Vo Nguyen Giap in the film "Liberating Saigon" by director, People's Artist Long Van. The film recreates the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, culminating in the event of April 30, 1975.
To transform into the legendary General, artist Duc Thuan went through a difficult training process. Notably, he also had the opportunity to meet the General and his wife 4-5 times during the filming process.
Those sacred moments were deeply engraved in his mind, becoming valuable assets for his future acting career.
Recently, when hearing the news that "Liberation of Saigon" will be re-screened in the program "Half a century of Vietnamese films about war" at the 2025 Da Nang Asian Film Festival, artist Khuong Duc Thuan could not help but feel excited.
