From the night of December 11 to 13, the Northern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms ; in mountainous areas, there will be moderate to heavy rain. The night and morning will be cold.
From December 17, due to the influence of a strong cold front, the weather in the North will turn cold and have scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places.
The meteorological agency said that this cold air mass caused the temperature in the North to drop by 8-10 degrees Celsius compared to the previous day. On December 18, the temperature continued to drop further.
In Lang Son province, one of the places that received the coldest air in the country from December 17, the sky was cloudy, with rain and light rain, and the temperature dropped to about 11 - 17 degrees Celsius. One day later, the temperature dropped below 11 degrees Celsius. Experts said that this cold spell could cause frost and frost in the highlands.

Meanwhile, in Hanoi on December 17, the sky will be cloudy with rain and showers, with temperatures ranging from 16 to 21 degrees Celsius, down about 8 degrees Celsius compared to December 16. The next day, the temperature may drop another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, with severe cold. With this temperature, this will be the coldest spell since the beginning of winter this year.
According to meteorologist Nguyen Lan Oanh, this cold spell may last from the night of December 16 to 22. In the areas from Hanoi, the Northern Delta, and Thanh Hoa, the lowest temperature will be around 11 - 12 degrees Celsius at night; 15 - 17 degrees Celsius during the day. In the Northeast, the temperature will drop even further.
"This cold spell is quite long. After December 22-23, the North and North Central regions will warm up slightly. Around the end of December and the beginning of January 2024, the cold air will return to strengthen and become cold again for about a week," said Ms. Nguyen Lan Oanh.
