At home, Man Utd welcomed Bournemouth with the hope of winning 3 points and closing in on the top 4 teams. But then Man Utd were soon "doused with cold water" by Bournemouth. In the 5th minute, Bruno Fernandes passed the ball poorly, Lewis Cook appeared and escaped down the left wing. He crossed conveniently for Solanke to skillfully backheel the opening score for Bournemouth.
Having conceded an early goal, Man Utd showed determination and pushed up their formation. But this was a match where Martial was placed in the starting position as a striker, not Hojlund or Rashford. The French striker played without determination and only shot once in the entire first half.
Man Utd lost heavily to Bournemouth.
On the other side of the front line, Bournemouth continued to have sharp counter-attacks. If it weren't for the excellence of Harry Maguire, Man Utd might have conceded more goals. On the attacking front, Man Utd often made bad passes in decisive moments. They couldn't find an equalizer in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, the game was not much different as Man Utd still controlled the ball more. But the shaky defense once again made the Red Devils pay dearly. In the 69th minute, Luke Shaw passed the ball wrongly, the ball fell to Tavernier and this midfielder created a beautiful pass for Billing to head in to double the gap.
5 minutes later, it was still Tavernier with a corner kick that created conditions for defender Senesi to head the ball to increase the score to 3-0. Coach Erik ten Hag brought on Rashford and Pellistri to find an equalizer but to no avail. Man Utd accepted a heavy defeat at home.
