Recent research by scientists at Lanzhou University in Gansu Province, Northwest China, shows that the probiotic bacteria limosilactobacillus fermentum GR-3, derived from a local traditional fermented food, has the ability to promote apoptosis in colon tumor cells and inhibit their growth.

Professor Li Xiangkai, the study's leader, explained that probiotic bacteria such as Lactobacillus GR-3 can specifically target the tumor environment while also modulating the gut microbiota.

The research team successfully isolated Lactobacillus GR-3, a bacterial strain with strong antioxidant properties. Based on these findings, the team explored the potential of Lactobacillus GR-3 in preventing colon cancer through its effects on the gut microbiota and host immune system.

The results showed that Lactobacillus GR-3 significantly reduced colon tumor growth in mice and demonstrated positive therapeutic effects.
