In the life of the Ma community, the Iun Jong festival holds an extremely important position. The festival is an opportunity for the villages to express their solidarity and attachment, contributing to building an increasingly prosperous homeland.
The festival is held every two years, with many traditional rituals preserved for generations.
According to custom, guests give the host gifts of harvested products such as fish and vegetables, showing the fruits of labor and gratitude.
In response, the host prepared offerings including a pig, a chicken and rice wine, products imbued with the culture of the people, to hold a worship ceremony and a brotherhood party together.
In a solemn and warm atmosphere, the village elders performed the worship ritual, praying to the gods to bless the village with prosperity and happiness, healthy and well-behaved children, bountiful crops, full pens of livestock, and prosperity for every family.
The ritual also conveys the wish for the community to live in harmony, share water resources and products with each other, without disputes or conflicts.
At the ceremony, the sacred prayer of the village elders resounded: "Oh Giang, today is a good day and a good month, we from the B'Tong hamlet and the B'Nom Pang Rah hamlets; the B'Plao hamlet; and the 4th and 5th hamlets hold a ceremony of brotherhood. This is a custom passed down from our ancestors for many generations. Today, we eat chicken, drink wine together, and exchange products obtained after a year of hard work, praying for the village to be prosperous, for the children to be safe and healthy, for the boys and girls to have extraordinary health, for the children to be obedient and studious, for the grandparents and parents to live a long life, for fish and shrimp to multiply, for the yard to be full of chickens and ducks, for the barn to be full of cows and buffaloes... We vow to live in harmony, to help each other develop, to share water, meat and fish, and never to quarrel or fight, Oh Giang."
The village twinning festival not only prays for health and bountiful harvests but also has great significance in strengthening the great solidarity in the community between villages, between the Ma people and other ethnic groups with the wish that every family will be well-off and everyone will be happy.
