On May 1, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province said that Mr. Le Duc Tien - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - had just sent a document to the Ministry of Construction and Vietnam Railways Corporation proposing a number of important contents related to rail travel between Dong Ha and Dong Hoi (Quang Binh).

The proposal aims to meet the increasing travel needs of people, especially officials, civil servants and public employees after the merger of Quang Binh and Quang Tri.

According to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, after the merger of the two provinces, Dong Hoi city was chosen as the political and administrative center of the new Quang Tri province.

The number of civil servants and public employees working at provincial agencies of Quang Tri as of March 31 was 2,676 people.

It is estimated that the travel demand between the two cities of Dong Ha and Dong Hoi of officials, civil servants... will be about more than 1,300 people, accounting for 50%, of which there is a need to travel by rail. The distance between the two cities is about 100km.

To facilitate and ensure travel safety, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province has requested the Ministry of Construction and Vietnam Railways Corporation to consider adjusting the timetable of existing trains on the Dong Ha - Dong Hoi route and vice versa.

Specifically, the route from Dong Ha to Dong Hoi is expected to depart at around 5:45 to 6:00, and the route from Dong Hoi to Dong Ha is expected to depart at around 6:00 to 6:15 p.m. every day.

This time frame is to ensure the time for performing official duties during office hours.

Along with adjusting train schedules, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province also requested the Ministry of Construction to consider and agree in principle for the province to study and call for investment in building a new pair of railway trains to operate the Dong Ha - Dong Hoi route under the form of public-private partnership (PPP), BOO contract type (build - own - operate).

The purpose of this pair of trains is to strengthen connectivity in the North Central region, promote tourism development, attract investment on the East-West economic corridor and meet the long-term and safe travel needs of people and officials. This pair of high-speed trains will operate on existing railway infrastructure.

Quang Tri province also assigned the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board to preside over and coordinate research and prepare a proposal for the investment project to operate the high-speed train pair on the Dong Ha - Dong Hoi route under the PPP form, to be completed before May 31.

The new Quang Tri province is expected to have a natural area of ​​12,700 ^km2 , a population of 1.8 million people, and 78 commune-level administrative units. The new political and administrative center of the merged Quang Tri province will be located in Quang Binh province.
