On the morning of June 25, Dong Thap People's Committee coordinated with the Ministry of Transport and Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee to organize the groundbreaking ceremony of Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway.
Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan... and leaders of provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.
Cao Lanh – An Huu Expressway is about 27.43 km long; the starting point intersects with My An – Cao Lanh Expressway in Cao Lanh District, Dong Thap Province; the ending point intersects with Trung Luong – My Thuan Expressway in Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province.

The Cao Lanh – An Huu Expressway Project is divided into two components, including: Component 1, with a length of 16km, from Km 0 to Km 16+000, located entirely in Dong Thap province, with a total investment of over VND 3,600 billion; Component 2, from Km 16+000 to Km 27+430, 11.4km long, located in Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces, with an investment of over VND 2,200 billion. The total investment of the project is about VND 5,800 billion.
Component 1 project has 533 households in the project area with a recovered land area of over 101 hectares. 100% of households in the project area highly agree with the policy of building the first highway passing through the province.

The route mainly runs parallel to the existing National Highway 30, starting at the intersection with the My An - Cao Lanh Expressway (Km0+00) going in a southeast direction, crossing DT.847 (Km2+018), about 1.7km from My Tho town, then going in an east direction, crossing provincial road DT.850 and connecting to the DT.850 intersection (Km16+00).

The project aims to form a horizontal axis and gradually form a network of expressways in the Mekong Delta region, connecting vertical expressways, contributing to meeting the transportation needs on the important horizontal axis corridor of the Mekong Delta region; creating a space for regional development with a synchronous technical and social infrastructure system, connecting economic centers, international border gates and seaports; improving competitiveness, creating a driving force for linkage, promoting cooperation and regional development; contributing to ensuring national defense - security, hunger eradication and poverty reduction; gradually successfully implementing the goals and strategies for socio-economic development according to the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

When completed, the Cao Lanh – An Huu expressway will connect with the North – South expressway in the East along the vertical axis, including: Ho Chi Minh City – Trung Luong – My Thuan – Can Tho – Ca Mau. In the West, it will connect with the North – South expressway under construction including: Ho Chi Minh road – My An – Cao Lanh – Lo Te – Rach Soi.
The scale of the completed phase cross-section meets the standards of a 4-lane highway. The cross-section of phase 1 is divided into a limited investment scale of 4 lanes, with a roadbed width of 17m and an operating speed of 80km/h.
