The Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project is invested by EVN and directly managed by Power Project Management Board 3 (EVNPMB3), with a total investment of nearly 4,000 billion VND, installed capacity of 200MW (including 2 units x 100MW), including items of inlet canal, water intake, pressure pipeline, factory, discharge canal after the factory, and operating road.
Capital for the project includes about 30% of the investor's own capital, and about 70% of commercial loans from the German Reconstruction Bank and BIDV .
The construction progress of Unit 1 is expected to start in the third quarter of 2027, Unit 2 in the fourth quarter of 2027, and the entire project will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Pham Hong Phuong - Deputy General Director of EVN - said that with an average annual electricity output of about 113 million kWh, the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project, when put into operation, will contribute to increasing the ability to mobilize capacity for loads in the Southern region, especially during peak hours.
According to Mr. Phuong, the project will contribute to improving the system's operating mode, thereby contributing to reducing production costs of the national power system as well as making the most of the flow's capacity and contributing to reducing CO2 emissions...
Mr. Vo Tan Duc - Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee - said that after completion, the project will not only supplement an important source of electricity for the national power system in general, aiming for the "double-digit" growth target of Dong Nai province in particular, but also demonstrate the determination to implement the strategy of developing green and sustainable energy, associated with Vietnam's commitment at COP26 on the target of net zero emissions by 2050.
According to Mr. Duc, the project has an area of about 95 hectares. Up to now, Dong Nai province has completed compensation, support and site clearance, reclaiming 67 hectares of land, reaching about 73% of the reclaimed area and has arranged resettlement for 22/23 households.
Previously, in December 2024, EVN started construction of Hieu Liem Bridge, an important item for the construction of the Tri An Hydropower Plant expansion.
Tri An Hydropower Plant began construction in the 1980s with comprehensive support from the former Soviet Union.
Tri An Hydropower Project is the last hydropower step on the Dong Nai River system. The project officially completed generating electricity with all 4 units in 1991 with a total designed capacity of 400MW.
In addition to the task of producing electricity and supplying the national grid, Tri An Hydropower Plant also performs the function of ensuring water for daily life, agriculture , repelling salinity and regulating floods.
