Opening of the Literacy and Anti-Illiteracy Class for People in the Western Border Commune of Nghe An

On November 12, in Tri Le commune (Que Phong district, Nghe An province), Economic - Defense Group 4 (Military Region 4) coordinated with the district Department of Education and Training to organize the opening ceremony of the 1st term, phase 1 of the illiteracy eradication and re-illiteracy prevention class for 26 students who are residents of Lam Hop village of this commune.

The class will take place every evening from 7pm to 9pm and will end in May 2025.

The class is for young people and the elderly who have never been to school or had to drop out of school, etc. Students participating in the class will achieve primary school level, have the skills to listen, speak, read Vietnamese, communicate in Mandarin and do simple calculations, thereby helping them improve their ability to work, produce, improve the quality of life, and contribute to poverty reduction in the area.

From 2017 to present, Military Economic Group 4 (Military Region 4) has coordinated with the Department of Education and Training of Que Phong and Ky Son districts to organize 21 literacy classes and disseminate scientific and technical knowledge to 497 people. In Tri Le commune alone, 4 post-literacy classes have been opened for 165 people in Nong 1, Hua Na, Na Nieng, D1, D2, Na Chang, and Kem Don villages.

Tri Le is a highland border commune of Que Phong district, bordering the Lao PDR to the west. The border is 18.35 km long. The natural area is 20,290 ha, the rice area is 450.8 ha. The commune has 16 villages, including 4 ethnic groups: Thai, Kinh, Mong, Kho Mu living together, the total population in the area is 10,992 people, there are 2,146 households with 1,468 poor households accounting for 68.41% (as of November 2023).

In recent years, the people of Tri Le commune have received attention from the Party and the State, with preferential policies for highland border communes. Since then, the material and spiritual life of the people has been improved, and the labor structure has changed positively. Backward procedures, superstition, heresy, early marriage, incestuous marriage, and suicide by poison leaves have been gradually pushed back and eliminated. Health care is always guaranteed, 100% of the population has health insurance cards. Social order and safety are ensured, national defense and security are always maintained.
