On March 28, the Conference to deploy the cooperation program for tourism development between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region in 2025 with the theme "Enhancing connectivity - sustainable development" took place in Soc Trang province.

At the conference, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province Lam Hoang Nghiep said that tourism cooperation and linkage is an inevitable issue for each locality to exploit potential advantages, developing tourism into a spearhead industry. The regional tourism development linkage program is an important basis for localities to promote tourism promotion activities. Thereby, localities, organizations and enterprises meet, exchange and share with the goal of making tourism development linkage activities in 2025 increasingly sustainable.

Mr. Lam Hoang Nghiep affirmed that recently, the leaders of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta have strengthened cooperation in tourism development, helping the tourism industry develop sustainably.

Delegates gave many opinions and proposals on connecting tourism between Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region in 2025.

According to Lam Huu Phuc, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tra Vinh province, in order to develop tourism in the whole region, in the coming time, provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta need to strengthen connections between localities in the region to create diversity in inter-regional tourism development. This includes building tourism products based on the potential and strengths of each locality, having policies to stimulate tourism, promoting the tourism brand of the whole region, etc.

Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that in the coming time, there should be specific mechanisms and policies for tourism development in each region, building tourism products, and promoting the development of river tourism from Ho Chi Minh City to the provinces of the Mekong Delta. Localities need to strengthen coordination with countries in the Mekong sub-region to expand the development of river tourism routes, mainly with Thailand and Cambodia.

Ms. Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, informed that in 2024, the tourism development cooperation program achieved many important results. These include: Announcing 55 river tourism routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta provinces; more than 2.7 million visitors from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta provinces; voting and announcing 50 attractive tourist destinations from Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, etc.

In 2025, many programs will be implemented. These include: Announcing the "Project to develop tourism products linking Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta;" developing a tourism program to the source associated with the historical values ​​of the border areas of Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang provinces; promoting tourism in Ho Chi Minh City and 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta in the Central provinces; promoting tourist destinations on the 3D smart map application platform of Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will organize training courses to improve professional skills for people participating in community tourism and tourism human resources at destinations associated with waterway tourism in provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta.

The Department supports provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta in training, fostering professional skills, improving development skills, managing destinations, serving tourists, promoting, promoting..., and promoting investment in tourism development.

At the conference, the Organizing Committee launched an action program on developing green and sustainable tourism in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta with the theme “Sustainable tourism and Net Zero target”; signed a cooperation agreement between travel businesses of provinces and cities in association with tourism suppliers of Soc Trang./.
