On July 22, the Jardine Foundation, an educational trust established by the Jardine Matheson Group in 1982, announced the Jardine-Fulbright Scholarship Program in partnership with Fulbright University Vietnam.

This scholarship program will support Vietnamese students to pursue graduate studies at the Fulbright School of Public Policy and Management, with the goal of training future leaders committed to contributing to the community.

Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, the scholarships will be awarded annually to students based on academic achievement, leadership potential, commitment to contributing to Vietnamese society, and financial hardship. It is expected that about 10 students will be awarded the scholarships each year.

Scholarship recipients – known as Jardine-Fulbright Scholars – will receive financial support from the foundation to cover tuition fees. Retention of the scholarship will depend on the student’s academic performance each semester.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Ben Keswick, executive chairman of Jardine Matheson Group, shared: "The Jardine-Fulbright Scholarship demonstrates Jardine's belief in the power of education to change lives and develop communities."

The Jardine Scholarship was established in 1982 with the mission of expanding educational opportunities for potential students from countries where the group operates. To date, the program has awarded more than 530 undergraduate and graduate scholarships, with a total value of over US$50 million.

The signing ceremony of cooperation with Fulbright University Vietnam marks a new step in the group's strategy of expanding educational support in key markets.

“We select candidates not only based on academic achievement but also on leadership qualities and the desire to contribute back to the community. This has helped Jardine build lasting relationships in local markets,” added Mr. Ben Keswick.

From 2022, the Jardine Scholarship Fund will begin a strategic shift by establishing direct scholarship programs with leading universities in Asia, to reach deeper into local communities.

The first programmes were launched in Indonesia (with Gadjah Mada University) and Hong Kong (with the University of Hong Kong), supporting disadvantaged students to pursue university degrees. Currently, around 80 students are receiving scholarships from these programmes.

Expanding cooperation with Fulbright University Vietnam is considered an important next step in this strategy.

The programme is part of Jardine’s sustainable development strategy, with education identified as a key pillar in the group’s social inclusion agenda in the region.

In parallel with the scholarship program, Jardine Matheson Vietnam will also implement an internship program for undergraduate students at Fulbright, creating conditions for students to accumulate practical experience and develop their careers in Jardines Group companies in Vietnam.
