Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued a document guiding the organization of teaching 2 sessions/day in the 2025-2026 school year.
Accordingly, the regulation of studying 2 sessions/day is mandatory for primary schools and applied according to the roadmap for secondary and high schools. Teaching 2 sessions/day is also clearly divided between session 1 and session 2 to ensure scientific , flexible and comprehensive development of students.
Session 1 is the time to implement the main curriculum with compulsory teaching content to ensure the requirements of the General Education Program.
Session 2 is the time to organize supplementary educational activities, in addition to the compulsory program content.
Teaching time for session 1 and session 2 is flexible in arrangement; session 1 is not fixed in the morning and session 2 is in the afternoon.

Session 2 is the time to organize supplementary educational activities, in addition to the compulsory curriculum content (Illustration: Phuong Quyen).
Specifically, for primary school, the second session will organize consolidation activities for students to complete their learning content, educational activities on culture, arts, STEM/STEAM education, reading culture education, school culture, ethics education, life skills, financial education, digital literacy education, artificial intelligence (AI), foreign languages, etc., to meet the needs, interests, and talents of students.
For junior high and high school levels, schools are allowed to review and tutor students who have not met requirements; nurture excellent students and review for transfer exams in the second session.
In addition, session 2 will organize scientific and technical research activities, career education, experiential activities, STEM/STEAM education, cultural education, arts, sports, foreign languages, etc.
Schools are required to diversify learning methods, coordinate with universities, vocational schools, research institutions, businesses, organizations, and individuals to participate in appropriate educational activities to support the organization of two-session teaching/day.
Detailed regulations on the content taught in the second session are intended to avoid turning the second session into "legal extra classes" and to overcome the situation of extra teaching and learning that is not in accordance with regulations.
The Ministry requires schools to be responsible for surveying students' learning needs in the second session before the start of the new school year to have a plan to organize educational content to meet students' learning needs and be suitable to the school's conditions.
Schools also need to publicize plans, content, and schedules for teaching 2 sessions/day, develop lunch and break plans suitable to actual conditions, and ensure the consensus and voluntariness of students and parents.
