Hoa Phat opens furnace number 2, Dung Quat 2 is ready
The BOF and RH furnaces were both designed, manufactured and supplied by SMS Group (Germany). The BOF furnace has a capacity of 300 tons/batch, a capacity of 9,000 tons/day, producing liquid steel with very few impurities. The commissioning of the oxygen furnace and the RH refining furnace is an important preparation step to put the project's blast furnace No. 2 into operation, aiming to complete the entire project in September 2025.
The blast furnace volume of Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 project is 2500m3, double the furnace volume of Dung Quat 1, consuming less energy. Hoa Phat also invests more than current environmental standards, especially in reducing CO2 emissions and reducing energy consumption.
Hoa Phat Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Complex uses technological lines from European and G7 partners such as SMS (Germany), Primetals (UK), etc. In which, SMS Group is a long-term partner in providing steelmaking equipment for Hoa Phat Group. In May 2025, Hoa Phat and SM signed a contract to supply technology and production lines for rail and profile steel with a capacity of 700,000 tons/year.
Since mid-June, Hoa Phat Dung Quat has put the No. 02 thick steel billet casting machine into operation, with a thick plate casting capacity of 20,000 tons/day. The casting machine possesses the most modern technology in the world designed, manufactured and supplied by Primetals. Primetal is headquartered in London, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. This advanced equipment system not only helps increase production efficiency, optimize product quality, save energy but also minimize operating costs.
