Korea, Vietnam join hands to make musical about President Ho Chi Minh

Towards the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on September 2, the Vietnam Drama Theater simultaneously launched the art program Uncle Ho, a boundless love and the musical Cafe Banh Mi. In particular, the musical Cafe Banh Mi marks the first collaboration between the Vietnam Drama Theater and the creative team from Korea.

Regarding the name of the musical Cafe Banh Mi , Mr. Park Hyun Woo - Artistic Director - said that with this project, he and the crew wanted to show the greatness of President Ho Chi Minh , his desire for independence and freedom, his spirit of charity and at the same time, he was a dear and close leader.

In the musical, the spirit and ideology of the Vietnamese national leader covers the entire nation and all classes of people. This is clearly shown through each character in the work. They are all unsung heroes. This is also the reason why Mr. Park Hyun Woo chose the names of coffee and bread to name the musical. Accordingly, the images of these two simple, familiar dishes symbolize the silent people who are always around us but have quietly sacrificed for the nation.

Banh Mi Cafe recreates the patriotism and bravery of the Vietnamese people in the boiling days before the August Revolution. Banh Mi Cafe realistically recreates the social context of Vietnam during the years of fierce war, poverty and loss.

The work praises the fierce patriotism of the people, especially the petty bourgeoisie, who not only contributed money but were also willing to sacrifice their lives to follow the revolution.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Drama Theater also introduced to the public the art program Uncle Ho's immense love . The program includes two short plays: Sister Tin's story and The South in Uncle Ho's heart .

The story of Ms. Tin's family tells the touching story of Uncle Ho's visit to the poorest family in Hanoi on New Year's Eve, 1962, while The South in Uncle Ho's Heart recreates the meeting between Uncle Ho and the heroine Tran Thi Ly and the soldiers of the South. No matter the circumstances, Uncle Ho always turned to his compatriots, especially his beloved South, with sacred and lasting feelings like a heroic song that quietly accompanied the years.

Sharing about the art program Uncle Ho - A boundless love , Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu said that this is not only an activity towards the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam but also a strategic step to bring stage art more closely connected with tourism activities, creating cultural experiences right at historical relic spaces.

“We have preliminarily worked with a number of locations such as the Presidential Palace Relic Site, Ho Chi Minh Museum, etc. to put the program on display. Each play lasts about 30-35 minutes, just enough for visitors to watch it all. In particular, the image of President Ho Chi Minh will appear on stage, creating a highlight of emotional depth and historical value,” said Meritorious Artist Kieu Minh Hieu.
