Bright red flags, colorful flower pots, clean and tidy streets… all have created a new look, full of pride. Behind that change is the consensus of local authorities and people responding to the Government ’s strong direction on environmental sanitation and urban beautification.

People join hands, the neighborhood changes
One August afternoon, in lane 128 of Phuong Liet ward, Head of residential group 12 Mai Xuan So carefully wrote each line on the bulletin with the content: "Warmly welcome to the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the first Congress of the Party Committee of Phuong Liet ward". As a retired teacher, Mr. Mai Xuan So considered this a small but meaningful way to contribute to the general atmosphere of the big festival.
“In addition to online propaganda, this visual form helps people feel more clearly the atmosphere of the big festival. Thanks to that, everyone responded very positively,” said Mr. So.
Besides, Ms. Do Bich Dao, a member of the Women's Union of Residential Group 12, Phuong Liet Ward, enthusiastically joined other women in decorating and cleaning. "We both cleaned and reminded everyone to maintain public hygiene. When the streets are clean, everyone feels happy and excited," Ms. Do Bich Dao shared.
In Lang ward, to celebrate the big holiday, all 53 residential groups simultaneously launched a campaign to clean up, beautify the city, and ensure traffic order. Sidewalks were cleared, garbage was collected, and illegal billboards were quickly removed.
Vice Chairman of Lang Ward People's Committee Ha Phu Binh said: "During this peak period, the cadres and people of Lang Ward aim for 4 goals: Establishing discipline, keeping sidewalks clear, strictly handling violations and raising people's awareness. More importantly, through this, we want to form a habit of preserving the environment in the long term."

In Hoan Kiem Ward, the street cleaning movement to create a green - clean - beautiful space to welcome visitors to the 80th anniversary of National Day, September 2, is taking place no less vigorously. Head of the Front Committee of Residential Group 3, Hoan Kiem Ward, Nguyen Quynh, proudly introduced the "Garbage-free street" sign that was recently installed on Dinh Tien Hoang Street: "We are committed to keeping this street clean and free of garbage. This is both a reminder and a source of pride for the community."
Joining hands with the government, small traders in this area are also contributing to creating a new look for the capital. Mr. Le Van Long, a trader on Hang Ma Street, said: “Along this street, business households have mobilized each household to contribute 10-20 flag strings to cover the street. Thanks to that, Hang Ma Street has become a “sea of red flags with yellow stars”. In the evening, the street sparkles like a festival, attracting many tourists and locals to stroll and take photos.”

The general cleaning movement was also positively responded by people in the suburban areas. Mr. Nguyen The Long, a member of Thien Loc commune, who is in charge of hanging the national flag at households along the main road of Nhue village, shared: “Hanging flags and planting flowers not only beautifies but also reminds us of the tradition of patriotism and fosters the spirit of the younger generation. On this occasion, our Youth Union also completed the work of clearing the grass along Hoang Sa road to make the landscape and environment cleaner and more beautiful.”
Building a sustainable green - clean - beautiful lifestyle
The celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2) in the capital is a particularly important political and cultural event. Therefore, the city has identified three key tasks. One of them is a comprehensive urban beautification campaign throughout the area.

This campaign focuses on inner-city wards, cultural and political event venues, political areas, historical and cultural sites, and parade routes. Forces simultaneously took action to prune, lift canopy, replace rotten trees, plant flowers, repaint road markings, replace traffic signs, and install lighting on roads to ensure traffic safety and urban beauty.
Accordingly, since July 19, the entire city has mobilized all its resources to beautify the urban area, such as pruning and replacing trees, planting more flowers, repainting road markings, installing new lighting systems, and arranging mobile toilets; at the same time, mobilizing public facilities such as schools, hospitals, shopping centers, etc. to open for free to serve the people.
From August 2, the general environmental sanitation campaign was held simultaneously in 126 communes and wards with the goal of creating a clear change in awareness, turning the movement into a daily lifestyle, not just a short-term campaign to "beautify the festival". Along with infrastructure improvement, the city also deployed many measures to ensure security, health , epidemic prevention, and respond to unusual weather... to create a safer, more civilized, and friendlier appearance of Hanoi during the great festival.

These activities aim to concretize the Prime Minister's directive on promoting waste collection and treatment, and maintaining environmental sanitation nationwide, and have spread strongly to every residential area of Hanoi. However, in the past, on many large streets and small alleys, the image of people hanging flags, cleaning, and taking care of flowers and ornamental plants has become familiar.
Many localities have established sustainable models such as “Garbage-free streets”, “Blooming streets”, “Green - clean - beautiful residential groups”. These models not only beautify the landscape but also raise community awareness, contributing to solving urgent environmental problems in the capital.
Chairman of Cau Giay Ward People's Committee Ngo Ngoc Phuong said: Cau Giay Ward has a rapid urbanization rate, with a synchronous and modern technical and social infrastructure system. However, the high population density also poses many challenges in managing urban order and environmental sanitation.
"From now on, the general environmental sanitation movement in the area will be maintained extensively to create a clear change in the awareness and actions of each cadre, party member, and each citizen, contributing to building Cau Giay ward to be increasingly bright - green - clean - beautiful", Mr. Ngo Ngoc Phuong emphasized.
From the Government's strong direction to the city's synchronous participation, from the efforts of the local government to the cooperation of each citizen, a widespread movement has been formed so that each citizen can raise their self-awareness in environmental sanitation, considering cleaning and decorating not only a responsibility, but also a source of pride. Hanoi is putting on a new, beautiful, civilized look not only to celebrate National Day September 2 but also to send a message: Building a green, clean, beautiful, safe and livable capital, where the beliefs, aspirations and pride of the Vietnamese people converge.
