How will ride-hailing change after merging provinces and cities?

(NLDO) - Many people are expressing concern about how ride-hailing will change when communes, wards, provinces, and cities change their names.

On the morning of June 30, localities across the country simultaneously held ceremonies to announce resolutions and decisions of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and communal administrative units, establishing party organizations, and appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Fatherland Fronts of provinces, cities, communes, wards, and special zones.

According to the records, many people have shared their residential information on the VNeID application which has been updated according to the data after the merger. However, many people also expressed concern about how technology-based ride-hailing will change when the names of communes, wards, provinces, and cities change?

Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh (residing in the new Hiep Binh ward) said that on Hiep Binh street, there will be two alleys with the same number. Therefore, when calling a car via the app, he must clearly state the ward name, Hiep Binh Chanh or Hiep Binh Phuoc (before the merger) so that the driver or shipper will not get lost.

People are still booking technology cars according to the address as usual.

However, now, with the new ward name being Hiep Binh, he is worried about how to book a car to avoid confusion and help drivers stay on the right route, avoiding wasting time.

Ms. Thu Huong, an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City, also wondered that after the merger, some roads in different wards have the same name. This could cause confusion when booking a car.

For example, Phan Van Tri Street (extended from Binh Thanh District - old Go Vap). Or, Kha Van Can Street (old Thu Duc City).

If you do not look up the correct address and ward name, confusion can easily occur. "Hopefully when the apps are adjusted, they will add the old ward names so that drivers and customers can travel conveniently," Ms. Huong shared.

Regarding this issue, a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper sent questions to a number of technology car companies.

Talking to us, a representative of a sharing company said they are checking and will have a response as soon as possible to ensure people's convenient travel.

Currently, ride-hailing apps are showing the old address and people are still booking rides as usual.

According to the Google Maps application, searching for current departure/arrival addresses still works as before. Google has not yet made an official announcement about any changes related to updating addresses after the merger of administrative units in Vietnam.
