Giang Thanh (Kien Giang): Striving to reduce the poverty rate in ethnic minority areas by 4% or more

According to the report at the Congress, over the past 5 years, ethnic work and implementation of ethnic policies in the area have always been considered one of the regular key tasks by the Party Committees and authorities of Giang Thanh district.

Giang Thanh is a border district with a population of over 30,000 people, with 3 main ethnic groups: Kinh, Khmer, and Chinese, of which the Khmer people account for 21.57%. From 2019 to now, the district has supported the construction of Great Unity houses for 100 ethnic minority households with a total cost of 4.47 billion VND... The lives of ethnic minorities are constantly improving, the poverty rate is decreasing rapidly. Specifically, in 2019, the whole district had 310 poor ethnic minority households, by 2024 there will be only 51 poor ethnic minority households.

Implementing the National Target Program on Socio -Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, Giang Thanh district is assigned to implement 9 projects, with a total capital plan allocated from 2022-2024 of over 22 billion VND. Thanks to that, the essential infrastructure system is increasingly invested and completed; education, health care, and culture are given attention; social order and safety are ensured; national defense and security are strengthened, consolidated, and maintained.

Speaking at the Congress, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha - Standing Deputy Secretary of Giang Thanh District Party Committee praised the achievements and results that the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups of the district have achieved in the period of 2019 - 2024. The results achieved by the district have made an important contribution to the overall socio-economic development results of the province.

On behalf of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha believes that, with the achievements and results, the attention, focused leadership and direction of the Party committees, authorities, organizations and the entire political system, promoting the tradition of solidarity, patriotism, self-reliance and self-reliance of the people, the ethnic work of the district in the coming time will continue to achieve many achievements and results, contributing worthily to the implementation of the political tasks of the district, of each locality and building Giang Thanh district to develop further.

With the theme "Ethnic groups unite, innovate, create, promote advantages, potentials, integrate and develop sustainably", the Congress approved the draft Resolution Letter for the period 2024 - 2029. Accordingly, Giang Thanh district strives for 100% of inter-commune roads in ethnic minority areas to be asphalted or concreted and over 80% of hamlet roads to be concreted. Regarding poverty reduction in ethnic minority areas , the district strives for the poverty rate to decrease by 4% or more, limit near-poor households, prevent re-poverty and over 90% of houses to meet the criteria of the Ministry of Construction .

The congress elected 12 delegates to attend the upcoming Congress of Ethnic Minorities in Kien Giang province.

On this occasion, the Kien Giang Provincial Ethnic Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 collectives and 4 individuals; Giang Thanh District People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 collectives and 5 individuals with outstanding achievements in ethnic work and national solidarity in the period 2019 - 2024.
