The 7th National Book Awards Ceremony - 2024 is organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Central Propaganda Department, the Vietnam Publishing Association, and Vietnam Television to recognize and honor the team of authors, translators, and publishers nationwide. This year's awards have been innovated by expanding the composition of the steering agency and the agency coordinating the organization of the awards; expanding the subjects of book nominations, including readers and press and media agencies, increasing the proportion of points to promote the spread of the awarded books; adding a new category in the award structure, the Readers' Favorite Book Award, nominated and voted by readers themselves; announcing the nominated books after passing two preliminary and final rounds; organizing activities to honor authors, translators, publishing units and communication activities to promote and spread books after winning the awards. Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department - commended and highly appreciated the important achievements of the publishing team nationwide and congratulated the authors, publishers, and distributors who were honored to receive the 7th National Book Award - 2024.
According to the Head of the Central Propaganda Department, the National Book Awards have made great impressions, becoming an important event in cultural life, attracting the attention of not only authors and publishers but also the public and readers nationwide. Through the awarded books and book series, we are more proud and appreciate the spirit of persistent, scientific, serious work, the dedication and the huge amount of knowledge that authors, scholars and publishers have brought to the public, readers and society. That shows the maturity and growth of the revolutionary publishing industry in response to new requirements . "We can only firmly step into the new era, the era of national growth, with a rich and solid knowledge foundation based on the intelligence, mettle, and stature of the Vietnamese people. No one else but the publishing sector must contribute significantly to strongly arousing the spirit of patriotism, self-reliance, self-confidence, self-reliance, national pride, and the aspiration to develop a rich and strong country" - the Head of the Central Propaganda Department emphasized. This year, 51/57 publishers have books participating in the award, 10 more than the 6th National Book Award. The number of books participating in the 7th National Book Award is 372 titles and book sets, including 455 books, 60 more titles and book sets, and 20 books than the 6th National Book Award. The Organizing Committee said that the judging of the 7th National Book Awards was carried out scientifically and strictly. The members of the Preliminary Council, the Final Council, and the National Book Awards Council worked impartially, seriously, and objectively, judging the books participating in the awards in accordance with the award's regulations and rules. The works proposed for awarding the awards all ensured the quality of content and form. Based on the voting results at the National Book Awards Council, the Department of Publishing, Printing and Distribution and the Vietnam Publishing Association have compiled and submitted to the Minister of Information and Communications for consideration to award the 7th National Book Awards - 2024 to 58 sets of books, books that won 59 awards, including: 3 A prizes; 10 B prizes; 21 C prizes; 21 Encouragement prizes and 4 Readers' Favorite Book awards (1 book won 2 award categories). In which, the A prize belongs to the following works: The 2-volume book series "Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City: Long Mile of History (1698 - 2020)" by Nguyen Dinh Tu; "Handbook of Diagnosis and Treatment of Internal Medicine" edited by Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Dao Xuan Co; The 5-volume book series "Complete Collection of Military Writers" by the Military Literature Magazine. The book "The Teacher" by the late Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh won two award categories including the C prize and the Readers' Favorite Book Award. Other works winning the Readers' Favorite Book Award include: "The Story of the Seagull and the Cat Who Taught Her to Fly" by Luis Sepúlveda, translated by Phuong Huyen, illustrated by But Chi, Writers' Association Publishing House, Nha Nam Culture and Communication Joint Stock Company; "Nameless Summer" by Nguyen Nhat Anh, Tre Publishing House; "How Much Is Youth Worth?" by Rosie Nguyen, Writers' Association Publishing House, Nha Nam Culture and Communication Joint Stock Company. Also at the event, the Organizing Committee acknowledged and commended the great efforts and contributions of authors, translators, publishers, bookmakers, supporting businesses, and journalists in creating good works, valuable books, promoting and advertising books, and promoting the development of reading culture. Within the framework of the award ceremony, the Vietnam Publishing Association in collaboration with the National Political Publishing House Truth, the Information and Communication Publishing House organized an exhibition of valuable books and book series, especially important political theory books published in recent times, along with all award-winning books from the first National Book Awards to the present.
