Impersonating Thu Duc General Hospital, using photos of critically ill baby to raise money

(Dan Tri) - A strange person impersonated the fanpage of Thu Duc General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, then posted a picture of a critically ill child patient with the content: "Please call for help for Tam who had an accident and is having to take care of his brain...".

On August 21, a representative of Thu Duc General Hospital (former Thu Duc City Hospital, located on Phu Chau Street) informed Dan Tri reporter that this place had just had a fake fanpage posted by a stranger showing signs of profiteering.

Accordingly, recently, Thu Duc General Hospital under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has recorded the appearance of a number of Facebook fanpages using the hospital's name and information to post content calling for charitable donations.

Specifically, the fake fanpage used the name of Thu Duc General Hospital, as well as the hospital's official address, phone number and website to post articles calling for financial contributions.

One post used a picture of a child, with the caption: "Please help Tam who had an accident and is currently receiving brain surgery." Below the post was a personal bank account number and directed viewers to transfer money.

Thu Duc General Hospital stated that the above fanpage took advantage of the reputation of this place to cause public confusion, affecting the image and trust of the people.

The hospital affirms that it does not carry out any charity activities through unofficial Facebook fanpages; does not authorize any individuals or organizations to solicit sponsorship, without public announcement on the hospital's official media channels.

"Thu Duc General Hospital recommends that people be vigilant, do not provide personal information, do not share, and especially do not transfer money to accounts linked from fake fanpages.

When verification is needed, please contact the Hospital's official channels, including the website (https://benhvienthuduc.vn), official fanpage (https://www.facebook.com/benhviendakhoathuduc/) and hotline at 0966 331 010.

We look forward to receiving cooperation from press agencies, media and the community in spreading official information, joining hands to prevent counterfeiting, protecting the reputation of the Hospital and the legitimate rights of the people," Thu Duc General Hospital shared.

According to the reporter's records, in addition to the above fundraising post, the fake fanpage also posted many other cases, and also used the image of Thu Duc Regional General Hospital (located on Le Van Chi Street, old Thu Duc City) as the cover photo.

Previously in April, Thu Duc Regional General Hospital also warned about a situation where someone used a fake image of a 9-month-old baby "with an infection and congenital metabolic disorder" to call for support under the name of the unit.

By the end of July, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health also warned that in recent days, there had been a trick of impersonating medical staff to scam blood donors in Ho Chi Minh City. The subjects asked for personal information with the reason of "abnormal blood donation results".

"People should absolutely not provide personal information to strange calls or messages.

When detecting suspicious signs, it is necessary to stay calm, not follow the instructions of strangers, and proactively report to the police or notify medical facilities for timely support and handling," the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health instructed.
