During nearly 10 years working at the Policy Department, Provincial Military Command, Captain Phan Thi Thu Ha has participated in the Provisional Collection Team three times, carrying out the task of searching for and collecting martyrs' remains.
The most recent time was the collection of the remains of martyr Tran Chu (1930 - 1962) in December 2023. Martyr Tran Chu was from Vu Phuc village, Binh Quang commune, Binh Khe district, Binh Dinh province, and enlisted in March 1954 at unit C5E259 of the Engineering Command.
During the fight against the American bombing of the North, he was seriously injured and was treated by doctors at Military Hospital 109 but did not survive.
After more than 60 years, officers, employees and soldiers of the Provincial Military Command have searched for and collected the remains of martyr Tran Chu, based on information provided by his family, hometown and unit. The moment of finding the remains of martyr Tran Chu left an emotional impression on all who witnessed it.
Captain Phan Thi Thu Ha said: “Searching for and collecting martyrs’ remains is not only a political task but also a very sacred one, expressing deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who devoted and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
Therefore, all officers and soldiers in the Provisional Collection Team do not mind the difficulties and hardships to carry out their tasks, hoping to find the remains of the heroic martyrs and bring them back to their families and homeland.
Every time we find the remains of a martyr, the team members are choked up and moved as if they had found a relative. Everyone reminds each other to search carefully and cherish every souvenir, no matter how small.
Vinh Phuc has nearly 15 thousand martyrs, and to date, the province has collected and repatriated nearly 12 thousand martyrs' remains. Since the province was re-established (in 1997), the province has searched for and collected 86 martyrs' remains in the province, including 21 Lao martyrs' remains and 65 domestic martyrs' remains.
The Provincial Military Command coordinated with local authorities and martyrs' relatives to organize a solemn and thoughtful handover, memorial and burial ceremony, meeting the wishes of the people and martyrs' relatives and families.
Currently, the officers, staff and soldiers of the Provincial Military Command are continuing to carry out their duties with the highest determination. The Party and State pay special attention to the search and collection of martyrs' remains, creating all favorable conditions in terms of personnel, facilities and funding to support officers and soldiers in carrying out their duties.
In the current digital age, officers and soldiers of the Provincial Military Command can contact organizations searching for and collecting martyrs' remains through websites and social networks to exchange and provide useful information, facilitating the search for martyrs' remains.
However, the search and collection of martyrs’ remains in the province still faces many difficulties. The majority of martyrs sacrificed their lives in the province during the resistance war against the French.
Time has passed, the terrain and topography have changed a lot due to the impact of urbanization, making it difficult to identify the martyrs' graves. Searching and verifying information is also not easy because the living witnesses, comrades and local people at that time, are all old or have passed away.
The search and collection of martyrs' remains is carried out carefully according to procedures, and information must be verified many times to ensure accuracy.
Officers, staff and soldiers regularly exchange information, grasp the situation, and promptly draw lessons after each mission to direct the search and collection of martyrs' remains more effectively.
Along with that, focus on propaganda and education of patriotism, national pride, and deep gratitude of the people, especially the young generation, towards the heroic martyrs.
The remains of the heroic martyrs were identified and handed over to their families as a gesture of gratitude and reward for the great contributions of the heroes and their families to protect and preserve the sacred Fatherland.
