Hunas home Green Herb Cooperative, Tan Hoa ward, Hoa Binh city provides safe products to the market, creating jobs for local workers.

Visiting Hunas home Green Herb Cooperative in Tan Hoa ward, Hoa Binh city, among the green hillsides is a garden of medicinal plants such as núc nác, lá bê, nhoi, hoa hồng, chanh, lemon, lemongrass... The Cooperative not only cultivates precious medicinal plants, but also produces many green products such as medicinal tea, artistic flower tea, consumer goods... supplying the Hoa Binh market and neighboring provinces and cities. Ms. Vu Thi Nga, Director of the Cooperative, said: Since its establishment, the Cooperative has focused on planting, producing, and processing local herbal products that are popular in the market. The products bring economic value to producers and the health of consumers. The Cooperative takes advantage of the locality's abundant source of medicinal herbs and creates jobs for many idle agricultural workers with stable income.

Hoa Binh province has a rich ecosystem with many types of soil and forest, favorable for the growth and development of medicinal plants. In particular, there is the potential to form concentrated medicinal plant production areas and preserve, exploit and develop rare, valuable natural medicinal plants. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the whole province has over 2,300 hectares of medicinal and aromatic plants planted and exploited annually. Plants with large areas and yields include: lemongrass 1,600 hectares; Solanum procumbens 379 hectares; and black xạ nearly 300 hectares. Many endemic species with high medicinal value have been discovered and used by indigenous people for a long time. Knowledge and experience in identifying, collecting and using indigenous medicinal plants have been passed down through many generations, creating a solid foundation for the development of medicinal plants. This is a long-term and sustainable direction in the economic development of local people.

There are some concentrated medicinal herb growing areas in the province, however, the scale is still small and has not been systematically invested. Medicinal herb products are mainly in raw or pre-processed form, with low added value. In recent years, some enterprises and cooperatives have been interested in investing in the medicinal herb sector, building large-scale medicinal herb growing areas, applying VietGAP and GACP-WHO standards to ensure product quality and safety.

In the coming time, the province will identify key medicinal plants with high economic value, suitable for the natural conditions of each region. Cooperate with research institutes and universities to research and select medicinal plant varieties with high productivity and active ingredient content. Develop advanced, sustainable and environmentally friendly cultivation processes. Invest in deep processing infrastructure, produce high value-added medicinal products such as functional foods, cosmetics, and modern oriental medicine. Build a reputable Hoa Binh medicinal brand with clear origin and source. Participate in domestic and foreign fairs and exhibitions to promote products. Develop diverse distribution channels, including traditional markets and e-commerce. Improve the professional qualifications of people and managers in the field of cultivation, processing and trading of medicinal plants. Encourage the participation of enterprises and cooperatives.

Hoa Binh focuses on implementing measures to preserve rare medicinal plants and prevent overexploitation. Develop organic and environmentally friendly farming models to ensure sustainable development of the medicinal plant industry. Strengthen links between farmers, businesses, scientists and managers to form a complete medicinal plant value chain. Cooperate with other localities and international partners to learn from experience and expand markets. The development of the medicinal plant industry not only brings economic benefits to local people, contributes to poverty reduction but also preserves and promotes traditional cultural values and protects the ecological environment.
