Signs of bruising on the body warn of cancer

Bruises are often the result of minor bumps in everyday life and are usually nothing to worry about. However, this does not mean that all bruises are benign.

In some cases, unusual, unexplained, or recurring bruises can be an early warning sign of a serious medical condition. One of the most dangerous diseases of this condition is leukemia, according to the health website Medical News Today (UK).

Bruising is a warning sign of leukemia if the following signs appear:

Unexplained bruising

One of the first signs of leukemia is unexplained bruising. This is a type of blood cancer that starts in the bone marrow. It causes the bone marrow to produce too many abnormal white blood cells, which reduces the number of red blood cells and platelets in the blood, leading to anemia and easy bleeding.

Bruises are caused by broken blood vessels under the skin. People with leukemia will develop multiple bruises on their arms, legs, back, or even abdomen without any significant prior trauma.

Bruising with unusual bleeding

If easy bruising is combined with easy bleeding, such as bleeding gums, nosebleeds or minor cuts that are difficult to stop bleeding, it could be a warning sign of a blood clotting disorder caused by cancer. Some people with leukemia or lymphoma have trouble clotting.

Bruising with persistent fatigue

People with leukemia or bone marrow disorders not only bruise easily, but also often feel tired all the time, have difficulty breathing, have pale skin, or lose weight for no apparent reason. This is because the bone marrow, where red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are made, is damaged, causing the entire body to weaken.

Bruises in unusual locations

Bruises from collisions are usually concentrated in areas that are easily exposed, such as the knees and elbows. However, if bruises appear on the back, abdomen, neck, or behind the ears, which are areas that are less exposed to impact, this is an abnormal sign.

Experts say bruises in areas that are rarely impacted or deep under the skin can be a sign of internal bleeding or serious hematological diseases, including leukemia.

Bruises that don't go away for weeks

Bruises usually fade and disappear after 1-2 weeks. But if they last too long, do not change color, or even spread, be careful. This could be a sign that the bone marrow is not restoring enough platelets. Too few platelets are not enough to repair small injuries in the capillaries. The real cause of this condition could be leukemia, according to Medical News Today .
