- The North has 13 provinces and 2 cities:
+ Provinces: Bac Thai, Cao Lang, Ha Nam Ninh, Ha Bac, Ha Son Binh, Ha Tuyen, Hai Hung, Hoang Lien Son, Lai Chau, Quang Ninh, Son La, Thai Binh, Vinh Phu.
+ 2 cities: Hanoi, Hai Phong.
- Central region has 10 provinces: Thanh Hoa, Nghe Tinh, Binh Tri Thien, Quang Nam - Da Nang, Nghia Binh, Phu Khanh, Thuan Hai, Gia Lai - Kon Tum, Dak Lak, Lam Dong.
- The South has 12 provinces and 1 city:
+ Provinces: Song Be, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Tien Giang, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Ben Tre, Cuu Long, Minh Hai.
+ Ho Chi Minh City.
Research on merging some provinces and cities
Vietnam currently has 63 provinces and cities, including 6 centrally-run cities and 57 provinces nationwide.
On February 14, the Politburo issued Conclusion 126-KL/TW on a number of contents and tasks to continue to arrange and streamline the organization of the political system in 2025. In which, the Politburo The Government Party Committee shall preside over and coordinate with the Central Organizing Committee, the National Assembly Party Committee, relevant Party committees and organizations to study the orientation to continue to reorganize and eliminate the intermediate administrative level (district level); develop a plan to continue to reorganize the commune level in accordance with the new organizational model, propose the organization of the apparatus, functions, tasks, powers and responsibilities of the commune level; orient the merger of a number of provincial-level administrative units; propose the policy to amend and supplement relevant legal provisions and Party regulations, and report to the Politburo in the third quarter of 2025.
