WATCH CLIP:

On the evening of June 12, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Nai province announced that it had just discovered a herd of about 10 wild elephants appearing in the Da Trang hill area (Thanh Son commune, Dinh Quan district).

According to the clip recorded on June 11, the herd of wild elephants had moved to the edge of the forest, to the electric fence near the house to look for food. When they discovered humans, the herd quickly turned back and moved elsewhere.

In Dong Nai, elephants often appear in people's fields, destroying crops and fruit trees, causing conflicts between humans and elephants to become more tense.

In order to prevent conflicts between humans and elephants, in 2017, Dong Nai province spent 85 billion VND to build a 50km long electric fence in Ma Da and Phu Ly communes (Vinh Cuu district) and Thanh Son commune (Dinh Quan district).

Currently, there are about 20 elephants in Dong Nai, living mainly in Cat Tien National Park (Tan Phu district), Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve (Vinh Cuu district) and forest land managed by La Nga Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. (Dinh Quan district).
