The report said the two earthquakes (6.0 and 6.7 on the Richter scale) injured at least seven people in Granma province. Twenty-six houses collapsed in the province, and about 70 educational and medical facilities were damaged.
Granma officials also recorded nine landslides. Across the country, Cuba's National Center for Seismological Studies (CENAIS) said there were more than 1,000 aftershocks.

Writing on X, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez said: "We are assessing the damage to begin the recovery process. The first and most important thing is to save lives."
