On June 11, a leader of the Thoi Binh District Medical Center said that the team on duty related to the case of baby D. (4 months old), including a doctor and two nurses, had been suspended from work pending a meeting of the professional council to make a decision. The center's stance is not to cover up, and to handle any mistakes accordingly.
Previously, D.'s family sent a petition to the Department of Health of Ca Mau province and the Thoi Binh District Medical Center, accusing the medical team on duty at this medical center of being negligent and "ignoring" D.'s health after he suffered anaphylactic shock.
According to the petition, on June 2, D. was taken by his family to the Thoi Binh Town Health Station for vaccination. When he returned home, he had a fever and cried, so his family took him to the Thoi Binh District Health Center for treatment the next day.
However, after being admitted to the hospital, the child's condition did not improve. At noon on June 4, the family asked to transfer the child to Ca Mau Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for treatment, but the on-duty medical team did not agree because they believed that the treatment was beyond the center's capacity.
At around 4pm the same day, D. was given an injection by the doctor but then turned purple. However, no medical staff came to examine him despite the family's report.
A moment later, D. lost consciousness. His mother held her child and ran to the on-duty doctor's office for help. At that time, only a nurse turned the child over to pat his back to wake him up and handed him back to his family. Then she went into the room without giving him any first aid.
Seeing that their child's condition did not improve, the family requested to be transferred to the hospital by ambulance and also requested medical support with the vehicle, but this was not granted.
The family then hired a car to take the child to the Ca Mau Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency treatment. Fortunately, D.'s life was not affected thanks to timely emergency care.
A doctor at Ca Mau Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital said that D. was admitted to the hospital's emergency department and was diagnosed with a grade II anaphylactic reaction and a digestive infection.
