Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Logistics Association: Need to build personal brand right from when you are a student

On the afternoon of May 21, at a meeting with students of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University), Ms. Dang Minh Phuong - founder of MP Logistics, president of the Ho Chi Minh City Logistics Association - asked students how they understood the idea that they have to give to receive.

Some students compare that when entering a business for an internship, you have to demonstrate certain knowledge and skills to "give" so that the business will "accept" you to work.

According to Ms. Phuong, it can be simply understood that students should "give" their time and will "receive" values. Specifically, a student's time is often a lot, but many students do not take full advantage of activities that will create value when they go to work later.

For example, a student who knows how to invest time in participating in club activities, associations, and organizing events for the school and the community will always be highly appreciated by businesses when recruiting.

Employers often see these people as experienced, dynamic, possessing many collaboration and communication skills...

On the contrary, students who do not participate in any activities throughout their school years will have difficulty getting into the "green eyes" of recruiters.

"Students are people who have a lot of time, give time and you will receive a lot of experience and lessons for yourself," said Ms. Phuong.

At the same time, the investment of time must follow a 5-year plan. For example, when a student is admitted to university, make a 5-year plan from the date of admission to university and plan the allocation of time to achieve it.

Similarly, when you graduate and have a job, continue to set goals for what positions you will reach in 5 years...

Ms. Phuong also reminded students about building a "personal brand". For example, missing deadlines, not being on time for class, often missing appointments... will greatly affect their personal brand in the eyes of teachers and friends.

On the contrary, maintaining prestige and responsibility in every lesson and smallest activity will add value to your personal brand.

"When you start working, your personal brand will follow you. My father often told me that lost money can be recovered, but lost reputation and brand cannot," Ms. Phuong said.

Speaking specifically about logistics, according to Ms. Phuong, in Vietnam this industry is still quite young, only really developing in the last 10 years. The demand for labor is currently very large, logistics companies not only recruit people with the right logistics major but also other related majors such as business, trade, import and export...

However, the challenge for workers who want to pursue a career in logistics in Vietnam is to continuously learn, even when they have reached senior positions. The world always records trends in logistics activities, so it requires employees in any position to continuously learn on their own.
