Yen Tho Commune People's Committee coordinated with Nhu Thanh Agricultural Service Center to inspect fields to take measures to prevent rice pests and diseases.
In the 2025 autumn-winter crop, Yen Tho commune planted 715 hectares of various types of rice. Due to the impact of storm No. 3 (storm Wipha), some areas were affected by rice blast, brown spot, bacterial leaf blight, leaf rollers, stem borers, planthoppers, etc. In response to the above situation, the Commune People's Committee coordinated with the Nhu Thanh Agricultural Service Center to inspect the fields in the area. At the same time, it informed the villages and people about measures to prevent and control pests and diseases for rice, especially the early-season rice crop area.
According to Vice Chairman of Yen Tho Commune People's Committee, Truong Manh Linh: "To proactively prevent rice pests, right from the beginning of the crop, the Commune People's Committee has issued a notice requesting villages to propagate to people and warn about the level of damage caused by each type of rice pest. At the same time, the organization guides people on the spraying process according to the "4 rights" principle. In addition, the commune assigns specialized staff to directly go to the fields to closely monitor the developments and density of pests to have timely prevention measures. In addition, rats have begun to cause damage sporadically on rice fields in almost all fields, with an average damage rate of 1-2%, and in some places as high as 5%. Therefore, the commune is actively organizing villages to simultaneously launch campaigns to kill rice rats."
As of August 4, the whole province has planted 109,659.5 hectares of autumn-spring rice out of 112,000 hectares, reaching 97.9% of the plan. Through field inspection by the Thanh Hoa Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, small leaf rollers have appeared on early rice fields with an infected area of 44.5 hectares, and a control area of 163.5 hectares. Sheath blight disease has appeared and caused scattered damage, with an infected area of 76.5 hectares and a control area of 732 hectares. Yellow leaf disease, root suffocation, and organic poisoning have appeared and caused local damage in some deep, acidic, and poorly tilled fields, with an infected area of 66.9 hectares and a control area of 238 hectares. In addition, rats have caused damage in a newly planted area, along roadsides, villages, and fields near sandbanks, with an infected area of 36.2 hectares and a control area of 16.4 hectares. In the communes of Nga Son, Ho Vuong, Nga Thang, Ba Dinh, Nga An, Kim Tan, Thuong Xuan, Luan Thanh, Tan Thanh, Van Xuan, Thang Loc, Xuan Chinh, Bat Mot, Yen Nhan, Luong Son, Ngoc Lien, Minh Son, Nguyet An, Ba Thuoc, Dien Lu, Dien Quang, Quy Luong, Van Nho... golden apple snails appeared causing slight damage with a common density of 3-5 snails/m2, high density of 8-10 snails/m2, infected area of 17.5 hectares.
According to the forecast of the Thanh Hoa Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, from now until the end of the season, pests and diseases that often arise in the autumn-spring crop, such as: small leaf rollers, 2-spotted stem borers, brown planthoppers, white-backed planthoppers, southern black-striped dwarf disease, leaf blight, bacterial stripe spots and black grain smut, physiological root strangulation, organic poisoning... In addition, rats, thrips, and stem borers are likely to arise and cause severe local damage, especially on summer-autumn rice (flood avoidance) and very early rice in the newly transplanted and panicle-forming stages. Brown planthoppers and white-backed planthoppers continue to multiply rapidly in density and cause light damage to rice in the late panicle-forming stage.
In order to effectively prevent and control rice pests and diseases, the Thanh Hoa Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection recommends that communes and wards regularly update the pest situation as announced by the department. At the same time, assign specialized staff to regularly inspect and visit fields to estimate, forecast, and detect pests and diseases early and have solutions to guide people in taking care of and preventing pests and diseases in a timely manner, avoiding affecting the yield of the whole crop. Along with that, regularly monitor weather developments to have proactive measures to promptly respond to the negative effects of the weather... In the immediate future, the agricultural sector and localities are focusing on guiding people to implement measures to overcome the area of rice that was damaged or broken due to storms and tornadoes on July 19, 2025 and 17,971 hectares flooded due to storm No. 3 and floods from July 20 to 22, 2025.
With the proactiveness of the agricultural sector, localities and farmers in preventing and promptly controlling pests and diseases that appear at each stage of rice growth, helping rice plants grow and develop well, ensuring productivity.
