Also attending the ceremony were leaders of localities, departments, branches and organizations of the province; leaders and delegations of Fangcheng area (Fangcheng City, Guangxi, China), along with a large number of local people and tourists. The event is a meaningful activity to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), International Labor Day (May 1) and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China.
Along with the Luc Na Communal House Festival, the Hoa So Festival, the Soong Co Festival, the Golden Season Festival, etc., the Wind Abstinence Festival has for many years become one of the cultural and tourism events bearing the brand of Binh Lieu. This is one of the unique spiritual and cultural activities of the Dao Thanh Phan ethnic group in the district that has been preserved for many generations. According to the elderly, on the Wind Abstinence Day, the Dao people quietly leave their homes early, so that when the Wind God enters the house, he will take away the risks and sorrows of the old year and bring into the house good things, warmth and prosperity. The Dao people believe that on the 4th day of the 4th lunar month, no matter what they do, it will not be favorable. They temporarily put aside all work, let the buffaloes go to the forest, and the whole village invites each other to "mì seng phai hay dao" ("go to the market on the 4th of April").
"Wind Abstinence" is not only a ritual with spiritual elements, but also a profound cultural message about the harmony between humans and nature, between the real world and the invisible world. That is how the Dao community strengthens faith, connects love and maintains solidarity in the community. Over the years, this custom has not been lost, but is still alive in people's lives, preserved by artisans, shamans, sorcerers and the community. The recognition of Wind Abstinence as a national intangible cultural heritage is not only an honor, but also a responsibility for the local government and people.
Mr. Duong Phuc Thim (Khe Tien Village, Dong Van Commune) proudly shared: "The Dao people's wind-avoidance custom is recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, which is the achievement of the Thanh Phan Dao community in Dong Van Commune in particular and the whole district in general in preserving, maintaining and conserving the fine traditional customs of the Dao ethnic community over the years. We are even more determined to spread the traditional cultural heritage of our ancestors to future generations, as well as tourists everywhere."
According to the leaders of Binh Lieu district, in the coming time, the locality will continue to proactively coordinate with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and specialized agencies to develop a plan to preserve the "Wind Abstinence Custom" of the Dao people in Dong Van commune in a systematic, scientific and sustainable manner; linking conservation with community tourism development, creating livelihoods and increasing income for people, especially the Dao ethnic community in Dong Van commune; encouraging the Dao ethnic community to promote participation in preserving the heritage, especially the young generation, so that the "Wind Abstinence Custom" becomes alive in the present and is inherited and developed in the future.
The Wind Abstinence Festival 2025 takes place from April 30 to May 4 with many unique cultural, sports and tourism activities such as: Art festivals between villages and hamlets; competitions in ethnic sports; spinning top exchange between people of Dong Van and Hoanh Mo communes (Vietnam) and Dong Trung town (China); display and introduction of handicraft products, OCOP products, traditional cuisine; community tourism experiences, etc.
During this holiday, Binh Lieu district is expected to attract 14,000 visitors. This is also an important opportunity to promote the image of Binh Lieu as an attractive border tourism destination, aiming to welcome 500,000 visitors in 2025.
