Cooperation, transfer of specialized technology

In early March, a team of experts from the Interventional Cardiology Department of the Provincial General Hospital, led by Associate Professor, Doctor, People's Physician Huynh Van Thuong, arrived at Thien Hanh General Hospital (Dak Lak Province) to transfer cardiovascular intervention techniques. Accordingly, the techniques transferred in this phase were coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty and stent placement. The transfer method was hands-on. During the transfer phase, the team performed coronary angiography in 6 cases; coronary angioplasty and stent placement in 3 patients. All interventions were successful, and the patients' health was stable after the procedure. Notably, in the 3 interventions, there was one case of 3 coronary artery branches being narrowed and severely calcified. This was a very difficult case, but thanks to the professional and technical support from the expert team of the Provincial General Hospital, the intervention was performed safely, bringing positive results to the patient.

As part of a series of technology transfer activities for a number of hospitals in the region, at the end of 2024, the Center for Orthopedics and Burns, Provincial General Hospital transferred the technique of treating pelvic fractures using 3D printing technology to Ninh Thuan Provincial General Hospital. After updating knowledge on 3D technology, the two units consulted and proposed a treatment direction for a case of severe multiple trauma due to a traffic accident. With the patient's severe multiple trauma, the team of experts from the Provincial General Hospital performed surgery to correct and fuse the left sacroiliac joint for the patient. Specialist Doctor II Pham Dinh Thanh - Deputy Director of the Center for Orthopedics and Burns, Provincial General Hospital shared: “Through the application of 3D printing technology, the team planned the surgery in advance and designed the surgical path. Thanks to that, the surgery time was shortened, the patient did not lose much blood and recovered early. After surgery, the patient continued to be monitored for health and was instructed in appropriate physical therapy to restore the function of the damaged organs. This activity aims to promote cooperation and professional development between the two units. Thereby, contributing to helping the medical team and doctors of Ninh Thuan Provincial General Hospital improve the quality of treatment, especially in the field of orthopedics”.

Will continue to transfer

The Provincial General Hospital is a Grade I hospital, under the Department of Health. Currently, the hospital has 4 centers, 9 functional rooms, 20 clinical departments, 8 paraclinical departments, providing health care for people in the province and neighboring areas. The Provincial General Hospital is oriented to become a final hospital in the South Central Coast region.

Specialist Doctor II Phan Huu Chinh - Director of the Provincial General Hospital said that in 2008, the Ministry of Health implemented Project 1816 (transferring upper-level techniques to lower-level ones); in 2013, the Satellite Hospital Project (core hospitals training and transferring techniques to lower-level ones) created favorable conditions for the Provincial General Hospital to access and connect more with upper-level hospitals. Thanks to that, in the past 15 years, on average each year, the hospital has welcomed more than 50 groups of domestic, regional and international experts to transfer treatment techniques.

With the successful reception and implementation of advanced techniques transferred, in the past 5 years, the number of surgeries performed at the hospital has increased each year. In particular, the number of surgeries at the Center for Orthopedics and Burns, the Department of Interventional Cardiology, and the Department of Spinal Surgery has nearly doubled. “To develop and become a regional hospital, in addition to the orientation of sending human resources for specialized training at home and abroad, investing in medical equipment, we regularly develop plans to transfer techniques to lower-level hospitals in the province. At the same time, we are moving towards developing plans to transfer to some hospitals in the region upon request. In addition to the above 2 phases, the hospital will soon transfer techniques in the field of spinal surgery to Thien Hanh General Hospital; continue to provide professional support in cardiovascular intervention, orthopedic trauma for Thien Hanh General Hospital and Ninh Thuan General Hospital,” said Dr. Chinh.

Currently, the Provincial General Hospital has been licensed and routinely deployed more than 70% of central-level treatment techniques; striving to deploy 100% by 2030. With the above development orientations, the Provincial General Hospital has contributed to improving health care for people in the province in particular and the region in general.
