The National Museum of History and the University of East Asia (Japan) have conducted research cooperation for many years (since 2013) to conduct surveys, research, and excavations of the Luy Lau ancient citadel relic and have obtained many important results.

In order to promote scientific research cooperation, the two sides continued to sign the Memorandum of Understanding on “Vietnam-Japan Archaeological Research Cooperation for the period 2025 - 2029”. This is an important next step, marking the journey of more than 10 years of effective cooperation between the two sides in the past and towards future research, excavations, seminars, exhibitions, and publications.

Within the framework of the new cooperation agreement, the two sides will conduct the 8th excavation of the Luy Lau ancient citadel from March 29, 2025 to April 29, 2025. This excavation will focus on researching and studying: the western outer wall and gate sites. The research results will help clarify the role of the Luy Lau ancient citadel in the history of the formation and development of ancient Vietnamese urban areas. Affirming the position and role of the Luy Lau relic, an economic, political and cultural center in the historical period of the first 10 centuries AD in Vietnam, making an important contribution to the work of preserving and promoting the value of national cultural heritage.
