Foods high in sugar, fat, fried foods, alcohol, and saturated fat can increase the condition of fatty liver.

Doctor Hoang Nam, Department of Gastroenterology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi, said that during Tet holiday with many parties, New Year's Eve, improper eating habits, consuming foods containing a lot of sugar or fat, causes fat to accumulate more in liver cells, leading to the progression of fatty liver disease.

Ale

People with fatty liver disease who drink a lot of alcohol during Tet can lead to more serious liver damage. Drinking too much alcohol not only increases the level of fatty liver but also causes liver inflammation with irreversible damage called cirrhosis.

Fried food

During Tet, there are many fried foods such as fried chicken, french fries, fried tofu... Eating too much saturated fat can lead to increased fat content in the liver, over time fatty liver progresses to cirrhosis.

Dr. Nam recommends that people should choose to eat the food they like in the right amount, balance nutrition, and maintain a suitable weight to avoid affecting the liver and increasing fatty liver. In addition, to limit the amount of excess fat in the body, people who like fried foods can choose to cook them with an air fryer instead of deep frying.

Processed meat

Eating a lot of processed meat may increase your risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and obesity.

Sausages and bacon are rich in saturated fat, and eating too much can lead to liver damage. Snacks such as potato chips, salty crackers, and dried apricots during Tet also contain a lot of salt. This excess salt causes water retention in the body, negatively affecting the liver.

Soft drink

The habit of most Vietnamese families during Tet is to buy a lot of soft drinks, Tet jam, dried fruits, and candies. Consuming too much sugar can cause the liver to convert excess sugar into fat, worsening the level of fatty liver. In addition, regularly consuming fructose-sweetened beverages during Tet can increase the liver's fat production.

Tet dishes are rich in protein and sugar. Many people often lose control of their eating, leading to increased levels of fatty liver or increased burden on a healthy liver.

Dr. Hoang Nam recommends that to maintain overall health and a healthy liver, one should eat a healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains rich in fiber, good fats, lean protein sources, and calcium-rich dairy products.
