In this year’s orange crop, except for the key orange growing areas that are showing signs of degradation and reduced productivity, there are still many orange gardens that maintain quality, trees grow well, and bear fruit. Having a certificate of geographical indication rights for Vinh oranges further helps the product affirm its reputation and consumer trust when it is introduced to the market.

These days, Mr. Nguyen Duy Hoa's family, in village 19/5, Dinh Son commune, Anh Son district, is busy taking care of 2 hectares of oranges, preparing for the "year-round" crop.
Mr. Hoa said: Although the orange garden experienced some heavy rains this year, thanks to proactive drainage ditches, it was not flooded, the trees still grew and produced fruit evenly. By mid-December, the family will start harvesting, this year the amount of fruit is greater, the expected yield will reach 25 - 30 tons/ha.

Mr. Hoa's family is one of the orange growing households with a certificate of right to use the geographical indication of Vinh orange in the province, issued on December 11, 2019. Since the certification, the family has affixed a traceability stamp to each harvest of Vinh oranges. After being affixed with the stamp, oranges have built trust with customers, and orange consumption has increased significantly despite the higher selling price compared to other types of oranges.
According to statistics from the Technology Management Department (Department of Science and Technology), currently in the province there are 21 individuals and units owning certificates of rights to use the Vinh orange geographical indication for orange fruit products.

Specifically, there are 20 individuals and units that were granted in December 2019 and are still valid, including: Thanh Duc General Agricultural Service Cooperative (Thanh Duc Commune, Thanh Chuong District); Song Con Clean Orange Group (Tan Phu Commune, Tan Ky District); Viet Xanh Cooperative (Nghia Hoi Commune, Nghia Dan District); Mr. Nguyen Duy Hoa (Dinh Son Commune, Anh Son District); Ms. Nguyen Thi Hue (Dinh Son Commune, Anh Son District); Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc (Dinh Son Commune, Anh Son District); Con Cuong Orange Production and Trading Cooperative (Bong Khe Commune, Con Cuong District); Ban Pha Agricultural Production, Processing and Trading Service Cooperative of oranges and orange products (Yen Khe Commune, Con Cuong District); Mr. Pham Van Lam (Dinh Son Commune, Anh Son District).

Thanh Nam Company Limited (Dong Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District); Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Nga (Thanh Duc Commune, Thanh Chuong District); Mr. Truong Van Bien (Dong Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District); Sao Mai Vietnam Joint Stock Company (Road N2, Bac Vinh Industrial Park); Ms. Thai Thi Hong (Xuan Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District); Mr. Nguyen Canh Hieu (Xuan Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District); Mr. Tran Dinh Thuoi (Tien Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District); Mr. Vo Van Hung (Nghi Cong Bac Commune, Nghi Loc District); Mr. Phan Cong Can (Nghi Dien Commune, Nghi Loc District); Mr. Phan Dinh Tan (Nghi Dien Commune, Nghi Loc District); Ms. Vi Thi Quy (Dinh Son Commune, Anh Son District).
And the Orange Growing Professional Association of Xa Doai, Hung Trung Commune, Hung Nguyen District, granted on October 12, 2020, is still valid.
For individuals and units that own a certificate of right to use the geographical indication of Vinh oranges, they are allowed to affix a traceability stamp to help identify the Vinh orange brand, increase the value of oranges, and also be a solution for consumers to recognize and distinguish Vinh oranges from orange products of other localities; thereby increasing purchasing power and raising income for orange growers.

In addition to the 21 individuals and units that currently have certificates of the right to use the Vinh orange geographical indication, there are also 10 units in the province that were previously granted certificates, but they expired in November and December 2022. Up to now, these units have not applied for re-issuance, the reason is that the orange growing areas in these areas have degenerated and cannot meet the same productivity and quality as before.
The issue of re-issuing the certificate of right to use the geographical indication of Vinh orange is a necessary legal procedure to affirm the Vinh orange brand in the market and is not too difficult to implement. Therefore, we also recommend that individuals and units whose certificates have expired take measures to improve the soil, eradicate pathogens, and gradually restore the orange growing area to soon be re-issued the geographical indication of Vinh orange, the highest goal is to maintain this famous specialty.
