Financial education communication for people is a trend of central banks around the world to increase information transparency, financial literacy, and legal transparency for people.
In the world, financial education for people, especially young people, is focused on from an early age. In Vietnam, the Prime Minister has approved the National Financial Inclusion Strategy to 2025, with a vision to 2030. In which, enhancing financial literacy for people is one of the important goals, aiming to change awareness, behavior and create good financial habits for the community.
In recent times, the State Bank has focused on and organized many financial education communication programs, such as: Smart Money, Wise Money, Understanding Money Contest, Future Banker, Understanding Finance...
Continuing the goals of raising awareness and understanding of financial knowledge and skills for students, the financial education program Smart with money was organized for nearly 1,800 high school students at two boarding schools for ethnic minorities, Cam Thuy 1 Secondary School and Cam Thuy 1 High School, Thanh Hoa province. Previously, the program organized the competition Understanding Finance, Smart with Money for students in Thanh Hoa, Tuyen Quang, Ho Chi Minh City with nearly 4,000 students participating.
Through sharing from experts of the State Bank and practical contest content, the "Financial Literacy" contest provided knowledge about Vietnamese currency, some forms of payment, security warnings in non-cash payments to students in a vivid, simple, easy-to-understand and widely spread way.
Thereby, helping students early access basic financial knowledge, such as: reasonable spending, saving, investing; at the same time, have an understanding of money and the history of Vietnamese currency, how to behave with money, and know how to appreciate the value of labor.
Mr. Nguyen Tho Bao - Principal of Cam Thuy 1 High School - assessed that basic knowledge and lessons about the value of money have a great impact on the psychology of the school's students. They are serious when learning about this knowledge. "Historical and cultural knowledge and knowledge related to finance and the value of money are really meaningful to the school's students. Students are very interested and teachers think that this content needs to become regular training content for students."
Many questions used in the contest sections of the "Financial Literacy" contest are excerpted from the book "Being Smart with Money - Avoiding Worry" by author Le Thi Thuy Sen - Director of the Communications Department of the State Bank of Vietnam, who has 20 years of experience working in the fields of finance, communications, and deposit insurance.
The book is considered a good learning material for financial education for the community today. Concepts that seem complicated and difficult to understand such as: inflation, deflation, interest rates, exchange rates... have been defined and explained in an easy-to-understand, logical way by the book, integrated into the content of 30 stories in the book. The book also helps students practice reading culture, improve skills, personality and develop comprehensively.
Since its launch in December 2023, the book has always been in the "top best seller" of Kim Dong Publishing House with a publication quantity of up to 30,000 copies.
