Identifying poverty reduction as a key task to ensure social security, in recent years, Yen Luong commune, Thanh Son district has implemented many synchronous and effective solutions to help poor and near-poor households have opportunities to develop the economy, create jobs, and increase income.

Thanks to preferential loans, Mr. Dinh Van Mai's family in Zone 5 has invested in developing a comprehensive economy, earning an income of over 300 million VND/year.

Previously, the path to "overcoming poverty" of Mr. Dinh Huu Ich's family, a Muong ethnic, in Zone 5, Yen Luong Commune seemed difficult to carry out due to temporary housing, lack of farming land, capital for production development... Faced with such a difficult situation, his family was able to borrow 100 million VND from preferential capital from the Social Policy Bank (CSXH) to plant forests and develop the economy.

He said: “Determining that escaping poverty must come from one’s own efforts, and the State’s support is just a “fulcrum” for us to rise up. Therefore, I always encourage family members to actively work and produce, gradually rising up to escape poverty.”

Talking with some households that have escaped poverty in Yen Luong, we found that everyone was excited and happy because their family life was improving day by day. As a locality with a low starting point and many difficulties in people's lives, in recent times, in order to effectively implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, the locality has mobilized the entire political system to participate; disseminated the Party and State's policies and laws on poverty reduction; implemented a variety of support programs for poor, near-poor and newly escaped-poverty households such as: Loans for production, vocational training, and increased on-site employment... to help poor and near-poor households increase their income and stabilize their lives.

The commune pays special attention to propaganda and mobilization work to raise people's awareness of poverty reduction. The commune increases direct exchanges and dialogues with people through conferences, residential meetings, training courses, etc. With diverse content, close to reality, participating in propaganda activities, poor, near-poor, and newly escaped-poverty households will have the opportunity to express their thoughts and aspirations; better understand the policies of the Party and State on poverty reduction; be introduced to effective economic models, vocational training policies, employment policies, etc. Thereby, creating a change in awareness, helping people choose the support needs appropriate to their actual conditions to develop the economy and escape poverty sustainably.

In addition to promoting propaganda and raising awareness among people, every year, Yen Luong commune coordinates with specialized agencies of the district to open training courses on techniques for caring for crops and livestock, introducing new varieties of crops with high productivity and quality into production, gradually changing people's thinking in agricultural production towards commodities, meeting market demand. Actively coordinating with the district's Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and enterprises, introducing workers to vocational training at training centers, finding jobs... Currently, the whole commune has 1,875 workers with regular jobs, 230 workers have been trained. Since the beginning of the year, the commune has effectively coordinated with credit institutions in the district to create conditions for people to borrow over 8 billion VND of preferential credit capital to develop production, invest, expand production, business...

Thanks to the implementation of synchronous solutions, the rate of poor households in the commune has decreased to 16.4%, the number of near-poor households is 21.47%. Comrade Dinh Van Phong - Chairman of Yen Luong Commune People's Committee said: In the coming time, the commune will continue to enhance the role and responsibility of Party committees, authorities, and mass organizations to arouse the will and aspiration of people to escape poverty; effectively integrate resources from the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction to support production development, create livelihoods, and help people escape poverty sustainably.
