Located peacefully in Ninh Son ward, Tay Ninh city, a nearly 8-hectare apricot garden is attracting special attention from tree lovers and tourists from near and far. This is the result of more than 15 years of dedication by Mr. Doan Van Luc - Director of Lien Anh Rubber Production Company Limited.

Mr. Luc shared that the idea of ​​forming the apricot garden originated from a business trip to Duc Linh district (Binh Thuan province), where he had the opportunity to visit a friend's apricot garden. Realizing the economic potential of this tree, in 2005, he decided to plant nearly 6,800 apricot saplings on an area of ​​over 1 hectare in Truong Luu hamlet, Truong Tay commune (Hoa Thanh town).

After 4 years, when the tree grew strongly, he hired workers to uproot it and move it to a new plot of land nearly 8 hectares larger in Ninh Trung quarter, Ninh Son ward (Tay Ninh city) and named it "Mr. Sau Luc's apricot garden".

The unique feature of this apricot garden is that each tree is planted in a brick pot, 30-50cm above the ground. This planting method helps the roots develop naturally, creating a unique "monster" shape when the roots curve along the pot wall. At the same time, Mr. Luc also invited many bonsai artists to shape the trees, giving them an eye-catching and artistic appearance.

According to Mr. Doan Van Luc, in recent years, the profession of growing and selling mai trees during the Tet holiday has become a trend. However, most of them grow and sell trees naturally, planting trees for a few years and then transplanting them into pots to sell, without investing in artistic form.

With a passion for bonsai, especially yellow apricot trees, Mr. Luc studied the tastes of customers who love bonsai and decided to choose a different direction, which is the bonsai apricot growing model, aiming to serve those who play with artistic apricot trees, who are both passionate and knowledgeable about bonsai, especially about feng shui.

Mr. Tran Thanh Phi, manager of Mr. Sau Luc's apricot garden, said that the garden currently has more than 6,000 apricot trees, all of which were planted from a young age, without grafting, and the apricot flowers have from six to twelve petals. Most of the trees in the garden are between 15 and nearly 20 years old, the ideal age to have a beautiful shape, large roots, flowers that bloom evenly and last a long time.

“About 80% of the trees in the garden are 14 years old or older, with a base circumference of 80-90cm. Each tree is meticulously cared for, shaped in bonsai style such as “straight pine”, “super wind”, “crescent moon”… Each tree shape is a work of art that demonstrates the meticulousness and creativity of the gardener. Many trees are valued from tens to hundreds of millions of VND, with some trees worth up to billions of VND – truly “living assets” in the middle of a modern city,” Mr. Phi added.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, a mai tree shaping artist working in this mai garden, said that thanks to being planted in raised brick pots, the mai trees in the garden all have beautiful natural roots, which is also a prerequisite for shaping the mai trees. Currently, 90% of the trees in the garden are of the beautiful type, with one trunk and one core, growing straight up from the base, and spreading the canopy evenly.

According to Mr. Tran Thanh Phi, the business of growing apricot trees for business is now being grown by many people. However, to have a garden like today, it requires the apricot grower and ornamental apricot tree player to have a great passion and a sustainable financial potential. For each apricot tree, from the time it was planted with just a stick, after nearly 20 years of care, to maintain and develop the garden, Mr. Doan Van Luc, the owner of the apricot garden, has invested tens of billions of VND in fertilizer and care workers. That is a clear demonstration of the strong passion and determination to pursue the apricot growing profession of the owner of Lien Anh Rubber Company.

Sharing about his future plans, Mr. Doan Van Luc said that he currently plans to gradually sell more than 1,000 natural apricot trees that have not been shaped into bonsai to create a source of income to reinvest in the remaining trees. For bonsai trees, he plans to set up a website to post each tree with different shapes identified by codes for those who want to choose online. After the trees are completely shaped and restored to good growth, they will be sold to customers.
