Farmer's "billion dollar tree" garden was chopped down to the roots by thieves

(Dan Tri) - When visiting the garden, Mr. Ty discovered dozens of durian trees had been chopped down and scattered by thieves. The incident caused his family hundreds of millions of dong in damage.


On January 20, the police of Phuc Tho commune, Lam Ha district, Lam Dong province coordinated with relevant agencies to investigate and clarify the case of a local durian garden being cut down.

According to initial information from the authorities, a few days ago, Mr. Nguyen Ty, a resident of Tan Thanh commune, Lam Ha district, visited a garden in Phuc Tho commune and discovered 50 durian trees had been cut down. Many of the trees were cut down at the base, scattered throughout the garden, while others had their bark stripped off near the base.

According to Mr. Ty, the durian trees that were cut down were planted by him 4 years ago. The trees were expected to be harvested for his family next season. The incident caused his family to lose about 250 million VND.

It is known that recently, Lam Dong province authorities have recorded many cases of people's durian being cut down by thieves. Local police have started investigating but so far there have been no results.

Durian is now rising to the position of "king of fruits" in Vietnam, joining the "billion dollar" agricultural product group when bringing in an export value of about 3.2 billion USD in 2024.
