Happy Independence Day of the Northerners on the Highlands

This is not only an occasion to honor the heroic history of the nation but also a time for the people of the highlands to express solidarity, pride and gratitude towards the Party, State and local authorities.

Since the end of August, the atmosphere of preparations for Independence Day has been bustling throughout Ia Lau commune, Chu Prong district (Gia Lai). The streets and houses are decorated with red flags with yellow stars, creating an atmosphere full of excitement and pride. The whole community cleans together, prepares traditional dishes, and organizes cultural and sports activities to celebrate the great national holiday.

If in previous years, the Muong people in Ia Lau commune organized many traditional activities such as sports competitions, folk games and unique cultural festivals such as bamboo dancing, swinging, throwing balls... attracting the enthusiastic participation of the whole community, then on this year's Independence Day, the Muong people gathered, visited each house together, joined hands to slaughter buffaloes, pigs, and chickens to celebrate, congratulate each other on health and family economy, demonstrating the solidarity of ethnic groups.

Mr. Bui Van Duong, Vice Chairman of Ia Lau Commune People's Committee said: "In the commune, the Muong community accounts for 46% of the population, contributing to the socio-economic development, security and politics in the locality. In particular, they still preserve and promote traditional cultural features, eliminating old customs... Before September 2, the atmosphere is bustling and united. For the Muong people here, Independence Day is a big holiday, comparable to the Lunar New Year."

The Muong people in Ia Lau always remember the contributions of the Party and the State in building and developing their homeland. Under the leadership of the Party, the people's lives have improved significantly. Programs to support economic development and build infrastructure such as roads, schools, and medical stations have contributed to improving the quality of life of the people here.

Thanks to the attention of the local government, with the spirit of learning and hard work, the Muong community in particular and other ethnic groups have always improved in agricultural production, improved crops and livestock, absorbed and applied science into practice, thereby gradually changing the economy, bringing people a prosperous and happy life, contributing to the overall development of the locality.

Mrs. Bui Thi Nhan (living in Hoa Binh village) happily shared: "Our family moved to the new economic zone in 1993, when we first arrived here we encountered many difficulties. With the enthusiastic help of the local government and the sharing of the indigenous peoples here, we have today. Therefore, the annual Independence Day is a special holiday for my family as well as our Muong people, this is the day for us to remember the contributions of our ancestors, the wise leadership of the Party, the care and support of the State and the government."

Joining in the joyful atmosphere of the September 2nd holiday, people in Cao Thang village, Ea Kao commune (Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province) also participated in cultural and sports activities, with every house hanging red flags throughout the area. Notably, these activities have become a tradition of the village since the late 20th century.

Under the cheers of the audience at the football field, Mr. Nguyen Van Dan - Secretary of the Cao Thang village Party Cell said: "Our Cao Thang village has 8 ethnic groups, mainly Muong, Tay, Nung. Although they have migrated for a long time, people still maintain the culture of celebrating Independence Day. Therefore, every year on September 2, the village will organize cultural and sports activities for people to participate in. This has become a tradition since 1996 until now".

On September 2nd, the final match between the two teams of Group 5 and Group 6 will take place. After the activities are over, the participating teams and villagers will have parties to exchange and strengthen the spirit of solidarity between the villages.

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Luc Van Tuan, a resident of Cao Thang village, said: "We are ethnic people from the North, who migrated here before 2000 under the new economic model. Thanks to the attention of the government, especially the help of the village, our family now has food and property. I, like the ethnic people here, always remember the Party and the State. September 2 is also an occasion for us to remember the great contributions of the generation of fathers and ancestors who sacrificed for the independence of the nation so that today we can live happily in peace."
