Vietnam aims to have at least 5 higher education institutions ranked among the 500 best universities in the world by 2030, and 5 higher education institutions in the top 200 universities in Asia.

The Prime Minister has just issued a decision approving the education development strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Aim for top 10 countries with the best university education systems in Asia

Accordingly, the target by 2030, regarding higher education, the number of university students per 10,000 people will reach at least 260, the proportion of university students in the age group of 18-22 will reach at least 33%, the proportion of international students studying higher education programs in Vietnam will reach 1.5%; the proportion of lecturers with doctoral degrees will reach at least 40%.

There are at least 5 higher education institutions ranked among the 500 best universities in the world, 5 higher education institutions in the top 200 universities in Asia, Vietnam is among the 4 countries with the best higher education systems in Southeast Asia and among the 10 countries with the best higher education systems in Asia.

This year, there are 6 Vietnamese universities ranked by QS, currently only Duy Tan University is in the top 500, the remaining schools are ranked from 711 - 140.

According to THE's rankings, Vietnam has 9 ranked schools, but they are in positions from 501 to 1501+.

In addition, the Government also set other goals such as shifting the structure of training levels and sectors to suit the requirements of knowledge-based economic development and deep integration into the global economy; the proportion of training scale in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sectors reaching 35%.

Expand development space and enhance capacity for higher education institutions, ensuring 100% of higher education institutions meet standards.

Strive for 100% of training facilities to meet quality standards according to appropriate inspection cycles.

The average number of scientific publications and scientific and technological application works per full-time lecturer is 0.6 works/year.

100% solid classrooms

Regarding preschool education , the Government aims to have 99.5% of preschool children attend school two sessions per day.

The quality of nurturing, care and education is improved, ensuring that children develop comprehensively in terms of physical, emotional, intellectual and aesthetic aspects, forming the first elements of personality, and preparing to enter grade 1.

100% of preschool teachers meet the standard qualifications and are trained according to the provisions of the Law on Education.

Strive for the rate of public and private preschools to reach 30%, and the number of children studying at public and private preschools to reach 35%.

Strive for 100% of solid classrooms; over 65% of kindergartens to meet national standards.

Regarding general education , strive for 75% of provinces and centrally run cities to meet the standards of universal primary education level 3; 40% of provinces and centrally run cities to meet the standards of universal lower secondary education level 3;

60% of provinces and centrally run cities meet the standards for universal secondary education level 2.

The rate of attending primary school at the right age is 99.5%, and 97% for lower secondary school; the rate of completing primary school is 99.7%, lower secondary school is 99%, and high school is 95%; the rate of transferring from primary school to lower secondary school is 99.5%, from lower secondary school to high school and other levels is 95%; 100% of primary school students study 2 sessions/day.

100% of general education teachers meet the standard qualifications and are trained according to the provisions of the Law on Education.

Strive for the number of private general education institutions to reach 5% and the number of students studying at private general education institutions to reach 5.5%.

Strive for the rate of solid classrooms at primary, secondary and high schools to reach 100%; 70% of primary schools, 75% of secondary schools and 55% of high schools to meet national standards.

Continuing education, striving for the literacy rate of people aged 15-60 to reach 99.15%; of which the literacy rate of people aged 15-60 in particularly difficult areas and ethnic minority areas will reach 98.85%. 90% of provinces will meet the literacy rate of level 2.
