The 2026 AFC Futsal Championship qualifiers have 31 participating teams, divided into 8 groups, including 7 groups of 4 teams and 1 group of 3 teams.
The teams will compete in a round-robin format at the host country's venue, with the eight group winners and seven best runners-up qualifying for the 2026 AFC Futsal Championship in Indonesia in January 2026.
According to the draw results, the Vietnam Futsal team is in Group E with Lebanon, China and Hong Kong (China). The team will meet Hong Kong on September 20, China on September 22 and Lebanon on September 24.
To prepare for this tournament, the Vietnam Futsal team will gather many experienced players mixed with promising young talents, promising to create strong competition.
Among the 20 players called up, there are two players who are participating for the first time at the national team level: goalkeeper Chau Thach Khanh Cuong (Thai Son Nam TP.HCM) and Nguyen Quoc Giau (Tre TP.HCM).
The main force is still the seasoned veterans such as goalkeeper Pham Van Tu, Fixo Pham Duc Hoa, Nguyen Manh Dung, Ala Chau Doan Phat, Tu Minh Quang, Pivo Nguyen Minh Tri and Nguyen Thinh Phat.
Notably, Nguyen Thinh Phat was the top scorer of the National Championship, while Chau Doan Phat won the title of “Best Player” of the National Championship, and Pham Van Tu was honored as “Best Goalkeeper” in both the National Championship and the National Cup.
Besides, many young faces continue to be trusted including Fixo Tran Quang Nguyen, Ala Trinh Cong Dai, Vu Ngoc Anh and Pivo Nguyen Da Hai, the best player of the 2025 National Cup.
The most regrettable absence is Ho Van Y. The veteran goalkeeper is recovering from recent anterior cruciate ligament surgery and is expected to need at least 6 months to return to training.
